Tiny, fingerprint-secured SSD keeps your data locked tight but instantly accessible [Review] ★★★★

Adam Elements iKlips S review★★★★
Easily secure your privacy with the iKlips S.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

No one but you can access the files stored on the iKlips S, a tiny SSD from Adam Elements. Simply tap your finger on the drive to unlock it. The biometric security system is similar to Apple’s Touch ID and keeps everything on the SSD private. No passwords are necessary.

File transfers are quick, and the drive uses USB-C, so it works with a broad array of computers, including Mac, iPad and iPhone.

I put the iKlips S through testing for this review and came away quite satisfied with its performance. Just be aware, though, that you’re paying a premium for the extra security. We can get you a 30% discount, though!

This Sandisk SSD is so tiny it can live on your MacBook [Review] ★★★★

SanDisk Extreme Fit USB-C Flash Drive★★★★
Add a terabyte of storage to your older MacBook with this affordable SSD.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

Sandisk gives its new Extreme Fit USB-C Flash Drive the crown as “the world’s smallest 1TB USB-C flash drive.” It’s undeniably very, very small — so tiny that you can leave it plugged into your MacBook. That means it can semi-permanently boost the storage capacity of your older notebook — and at quite a good price.

I tested the miniature external SSD with a variety of Apple devices, including my iPhone. Here’s how it stood up to real-world use.

Kuxiu M30 Magnetic Smart Connector Charger for iPad Pro/Air★★★★★
Charging your iPad doesn’t mean taking up the USB-C port with the Kuxiu M30.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

The Kuxiu M30 Magnetic Smart Connector Charger for iPad Pro/Air helps solve the irritating problem of limited iPad ports. It clings to the back of Apple tablets and charges them without taking up the computer’s sole USB-C port. It also reduces wear on the port.

I put the 35W charger through testing in my home office and came away quite satisfied.

Rolling Square Supertiny review★★★★
We went hands-on with the wee little Rolling Square Supertiny.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

Rolling Square claims, “Supertiny is the smallest 65W GaN Charger ever.” It’s definitely very small, but can still quickly power up a MacBook or other full-size computer.

I put the claims to the test and came away impressed. I do have one caution, though.

This portable monitor proves that a smaller screen can be better [Review] ★★★★

KYY 14” Portable Monitor★★★★
The KYY 14” Portable Monitor pairs well with a 14-inch MacBook or a 13-inch iPad.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

The KYY 14” Portable Monitor challenges the idea that bigger is always better. It’s much smaller than the external display I usually travel with — and that’s exactly why I love it.

As a bonus, it’s very affordable, especially with an Amazon Prime Day deal.

5 ways Logitech’s new iPad keyboard case beats Apple’s [Review] ★★★★

By

Logitech Flip Folio review★★★★
Logitech Flip Folio stands out with a keyboard that’s not permanently affixed to its case/stand.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

The Logitech Flip Folio is a protective keyboard case and stand for iPad Pro and iPad Air models that goes head-to-head against the Apple Magic Keyboard. Having tested both, Logitech’s new offering comes out ahead of Apple’s is some ways, including wider support for screen orientations, and because the keyboard can separate from the case/stand. Plus, a hefty price advantage can’t be overlooked.

Be sure to read the full review for more details.

Elevate your iPad with this lightweight origami case/stand [Review] ★★★★

Moft Dynamic Folio★★★★
The Moft Dynamic Folio case/stand can lift your iPad closer to eye level.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

iPad cases that fold into stands are old news, but the Moft Dynamic Folio takes that idea and builds on it. The front flap can be folded into a variety of shapes to support the tablet at a range of angles, in both landscape and portrait orientations. A highlight is one that lifts the iPad up about 3 inches so it’s easier to see.

Plus, the case/stand is lightweight and very easy to attach and remove. There are versions for all recent Apple tablets.

I tested the flexible iPad accessory for several weeks. Here’s what I found out.

Even better, it offers 1,000MB/s data transfers, and capacities go up to 2 terabytes. The price is very competitive, too.

6-port iPad stand/hub adds convenient media control buttons [Review] ★★★★☆

Zagg 6-Port Media Hub for iPad★★★★☆
The Zagg 6-port Media Hub features an iPad stand, useful ports plus media controls.
Photo: Zagg

The Zagg 6-port Media Hub includes a flip-up iPad stand, an HDMI port, a USB-A port and more, with the standout feature being an easily accessible set of media controls. And all this fits into the same space on your desktop as a more conventional tablet stand.

I used the iPad hub/stand in my home for weeks, and it does its job well. That said, a design quirk might limit its appeal.

Dump that HDMI cable for this easy-to-use wireless video transmitter [Review] ★★★★

Nyrius Orion Prime wireless video transmitter review★★★★
Replace that bulky HDMI cable with a wireless video transmitter.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

The Nyrius Orion Prime Wireless USB-C to HDMI Video Transmitter & Receiver frees you from needing to string an HDMI cable across your office or living room. Plug one gizmo into your MacBook, iPad, or iPhone, and another into your TV, and they’re connected.

The wireless adapter sends HD video a surprising distance and doesn’t require a Wi-Fi network.

I tested the wireless video transmitter out for myself and came away impressed. That said, it does have a limitation that makes it better for entertainment than work.

This brilliant portable foldable monitor is like nothing you’ve ever seen [Review] ★★★★★

By

Arovia Splay★★★★★
The Arovia Splay puts a beautiful 25-inch screen anywhere you need one.
Photo: Arovia

The Arovia Splay Portable Foldable Monitor and Projector is a truly remarkable piece of kit. Not only does it promise a 25-inch, 1080p screen that can fold down to the size of a book, it actually delivers… with a surprisingly bright, clear image that doesn’t need a darkened room.

As the name indicates, it can also be used as a small portable projector.

I watched hours of TV shows on the Splay, and used it for work, too. I’m truly impressed with the performance. I’m less pleased about the price, though.

Zagg Tough Keys is the iPad 11 keyboard case young students need [Review] ★★★★☆

Zagg Tough Keys review★★★★☆
Zagg Tough Keys is designed for a kid to do homework on.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

Apple made the recently launched iPad 11 (A16) with younger users in mind, and the Zagg Tough Keys expands the tablet with a keyboard and trackpad that provides 6.6 feet of drop protection — something any parent can see the advantage of.

I took the rugged iPad keyboard case for a test drive. It adds quite a bit for young students, but there are limitations for anyone older. Read on to learn more.

The Zagg 6-Port Media Hub is ideal for fans of watching video on an iPad.
Photo: Zagg

Don’t buy a separate stand and hub for your iPad until you check out the Zagg 6-port Media Hub that launched Wednesday. Add an HDMI port, a USB-A port and more to your tablet without taking up any more space on your desktop than a stand alone would.

Plus, it got a big brother: the Zagg Pro Dock is a stand for MacBooks with 10 ports, including dual HDMI and Ethernet.

These are part of a collection of new hubs from Zagg with a range of port options.
