iPhone 17

iPhone 17: Cult of Mac Superguide
Everything we know so far about September’s new phones.

The iPhone 17 is the lineup of iPhones that will be announced in September 2025. The iPhone 16 is the lineup that is currently for sale.

The exact design details are a closely guarded secret: Apple never releases any information about upcoming products until they are unveiled at special product launch events. The iPhone has been announced in September for the last 14 years — barring 2020 when COVID delayed it one month. Monday, September 8 is likely when it will be this year.

Leaks and rumors suggest Apple is going to make some changes to the standard iPhone lineup. As anticipation builds, here’s a detailed overview of what we can expect from this new series.

iPhone 17 models

The lineup is rumored to consist of five models:

  • iPhone 17
  • iPhone 17 Pro
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max
  • iPhone 17 Air (or Slim)
  • iPhone 17e

Notably, Apple is discontinuing the “Plus” model in favor of the new Air variant, which aims to offer a thinner design without compromising on performance or features.

The 17e will likely get a later release of spring 2026, just like the delayed release of the iPhone 16e.

iPhone 17 colors

  • 17: While specific colors for the standard models have not been confirmed, Apple typically offers a range of classic hues. Based on previous releases, we can expect traditional colors like BlackWhite, Pink and Blue, and possibly one more fun color.
  • Pro and Pro Max:
    • Leaker Majin Bu has indicated that Apple is considering introducing brighter and more saturated colors for the Pro models, including:
      • Teal Titanium
      • Green Titanium
      • Dark Green Titanium
    • These colors would represent a significant shift from Apple’s typical muted tones used in previous Pro models, which have included shades like Black Titanium and Desert Titanium.
  • Air:
    • The new Air model is also expected to feature unique color options, potentially including some of the vibrant shades mentioned above. This model may appeal to users looking for a lighter and more colorful aesthetic.

Apple’s color strategy

Historically, Apple has reserved more vivid colors for its non-Pro models, such as the bright pinks and aquamarine options seen in the iPhone 16 series. The introduction of brighter colors in the Pro lineup would mark a notable change in Apple’s design philosophy, suggesting a willingness to cater to a broader audience seeking personalization in their devices

While these color options are still speculative and subject to change as we approach the official launch, the potential inclusion of vibrant hues like Teal and Dark Green could make the pro phones stand out in a crowded market. As always with Apple, official confirmation will come closer to the release date.

iPhone 17 design

iPhone 17 rumors: Pictures
The four main models will almost certainly look very much like this.

The iPhone 17 series is expected to showcase a tweaked design. The biggest change will come to the camera module on the back, where on the Pro and Air models, it will stretch all the way across the rear of the phone. Based on leaked images, it appears the design of the camera plateau will also be a little tweaked, with a bubbly, glossy look.

The iPhone 17 Air featuring a significantly thinner profile compared to its peers. Whereas the regular and pro models will be the same thickness (or slightly thicker), the Air will be much slimmer and lighter. This model could be the top choice for those who want a more comfortable phone to hold in the hand.

Earlier rumors suggested a much more dramatic redesign — but later turned out to be incorrect.

iPhone 17 display

The entry-level model may see an increase in display size from 6.1 inches to approximately 6.3 inches, while the Air model could measure around 6.6 inches. The Pro models will stick with their 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays.

iPhone 17 features

One of the most exciting updates is the potential introduction of ProMotion technology across all models, allowing for a smoother scrolling experience with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. This feature, previously exclusive to Pro models, will enhance user experience significantly by enabling always-on functionality and better video playback

iPhone 17 camera

Apple is expected to enhance its camera technology significantly:

  • Front Camera: A new 24MP front-facing camera will replace the current 12MP sensor, improving selfie quality and low-light performance.
  • Rear Cameras: The Pro Max model may feature a triple-camera setup with three 48MP sensors, enhancing mobile photography capabilities, particularly in low-light conditions.

iPhone 17 specs

The entire iPhone 17 lineup is rumored to be powered by Apple’s next-generation A19 chip, built on a refined 3-nanometer process, promising improved performance and energy efficiency. The Pro models are expected to come with 12GB of RAM, while the standard and Air versions will have 8GB, catering to both casual users and power users alike.

iPhone 17 Wi-Fi

With advancements in connectivity, the iPhone 17 series is set to support Wi-Fi 7, which will provide faster wireless connections and improved data transmission speeds. This enhancement will be particularly beneficial for users engaged in streaming and gaming activities.

iPhone 17 durability

Apple is reportedly collaborating with Corning to introduce a new anti-reflective coating that is tougher and more scratch-resistant than the existing Ceramic Shield. This upgrade aims to enhance screen durability, addressing concerns about wear and tear over time.

iPhone 17 price

While pricing details remain speculative, it’s likely that Apple will maintain similar price points as the iPhone 16 series. The anticipated starting prices could be around:

  • iPhone 17: $799
  • iPhone 17 Pro: $999
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: $1,199
  • iPhone 17 Air: Pricing yet to be determined but expected above the standard models. Early rumors suggested the iPhone 17 Air would be the most expensive in the linuep, but subsequent rumors suggest the iPhone 17 Air’s price will be somewhere in the middle.

iPhone 17 release date

Pre-orders are expected to commence shortly after a September 2025 announcement, with shipping likely starting a week later.

Conclusion

The iPhone 17 lineup promises substantial upgrades across design, performance, camera technology, and connectivity features. As Apple continues its tradition of innovation, the anticipation surrounding these devices highlights their potential impact on the smartphone market in 2025. With significant enhancements expected across all models, Apple fans have much to look forward to later this year.
