With purported details of the iPhone 17 Pro Max appearing online many months before the device’s launch, a Russian YouTube channel prepared renders that reveal what Apple’s next top-tier handset could look like.

Don’t expect last year’s model with just a few tweaks. According to rumors reflected in the new renders, 2025 will bring a substantial redesign, including potential changes to the humps on the device. Learn more about these design updates.

iPhone 17 Pro Max renders show a redesign

iPhone 17 Pro Max surely won’t launch before September 2025, but experience shows it would be a mistake to dismiss early rumors about its design. In the past, similar leaks generally proved correct. As just one example of many, very accurate renders of the iPhone 15 Pro became available six months before the launch. And we first heard Apple would bump up the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max screen sizes more than a year early. That certainly doesn’t guarantee that the latest renders of Apple’s future premier model are correct — mistakes happen — but they can’t be ignored, either.

Unlike the last few years, the top-of-the-line iOS models reportedly will feature camera lenses lined up horizontally across the top of the handset’s rear. This information comes from a supposedly leaked picture of part of the iPhone 17 Pro Max chassis.

The YouTube channel Wylsacom took this and other leaks to create iPhone 17 Pro Max renders showing what the device could look like. If they prove accurate, 2025 will bring the most significant revamp to the iPhone design in years. But it’s not a fundamental change. With mature products like smartphones, complete redesigns are rare. Dramatic change isn’t likely before the rumored first folding iPhone in a few years.

The orientation of the camera hump supposedly won’t be the only change in the iPhone 17 Pro Max. As previously reported, Apple may supposedly will ditch the Pro models’ titanium edges for aluminum. What should be obvious from the renders is that part of the back panel will be aluminum, but the rest will be glass. If you’re wondering when is iPhone 17 coming out, recent reports suggest it could bring notable design shifts.

We won’t know for sure whether these iPhone 17 Pro Max renders are accurate until the official launch, likely in September 2025. But it’s fun to speculate in the meantime.
