Apple will expand Emergency SOS via satellite on the iPhone and Apple Watch Ultra 3 to Mexico later this year.

The feature will enable iPhone and Apple Watch users in Mexico to contact emergency services outside mobile network coverage.

Apple expands the reach of Emergency SOS via satellite

Apple debuted emergency satellite connectivity with the iPhone 14 in 2022. Initially, the feature was only available in the United States and Canada. But since then, the company gradually expanded its availability to more countries.

Within months of the iPhone 14 launch, Emergency SOS via satellite expanded to Ireland, France, Germany and the U.K. In July 2024, it rolled out the life-saving feature to Japan.

Now, later this year, Apple confirmed to 9to5Mac that it will bring Emergency SOS via satellite to Mexico. The feature will be available on all compatible iPhones and the Apple Watch Ultra 3. While not mentioned, the company will possibly roll out the feature with the release of iOS 26.1 or iOS 26.2.

With this addition, Emergency SOS via satellite is available in the following countries:

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Mexico, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, the UK, and the US.

The life-saving feature remains free for now

With the launch of the iPhone 17 lineup this year, the company again extended free access to Emergency SOS for another year for iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 users.

iPhone 17 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 users can enjoy Emergency SOS via satellite connectivity for free for two years from the date of device activation.

Apart from contacting emergency services, you can also share your location via Find My using your iPhone or Apple Watch’s satellite connection.
