Many AT&T customers in the U.S. are experiencing voicemail issues amid a lenthy outage. Some customers say they have been unable to access messages since September.
AT&T is aware of the issue, but there’s no clear explanation of what’s causing it — or how long it will last.

Strong demand for the iPhone 11 lineup has boosted Apple’s market share in several regions around the world.
Cupertino made gains in Europe, Australia, and Japan last quarter, according to new figures. But iPhone suffered a market share decline in China — and on its home turf.
Scam cost Apple up to $1.2 million. Photo: Ste Smith/Cult of Mac
An ex-Oregon engineering student from China who plead guilty to a scam involving counterfeit iPhones has been sentenced to more than three years in prison.
30-year-old Quan Jiang and another student imported fake iPhones. They swapped these out for legit devices under Apple’s warranty scheme. The working iPhones were then sent to China, and they were rewarded with a cut of the profits. The scam reportedly cost Apple up to $1.2 million.
Apple has reportedly agreed shorter payment terms with struggling display-maker Japan Display (JDI). It is part of a plan to help stabilize the company following years of financial troubles.
The deal comes after Apple agreed to cough up as much as $200 million as part of bailout to keep JDI afloat.

Apple reportedly is working on a number of big design changes for the 2020 iPhone lineup. It wants to shrink the notch (finally!) and add wider antenna bands that will support 5G connectivity.
The company is said to be testing a number of prototype designs — all of which feature smaller notches. Apple also is planning for a future without Lightning connectivity.
Orders could help patch up Apple and Samsung relationship. Photo: Leander Kahney/Cult of Mac
Interest in the iPhone has picked up considerably in the second half of 2019, a new report claims. It cites OLED display orders made by Apple to its OLED supplier Samsung Display.
Samsung will reportedly deliver 40-50 million OLED display panels to Apple for the second half of 2019. In particular, the supply volume in September is 40% higher than the initially planned order. That suggests that the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max have been big hits.
Apple Watch is no longer the only option if you want a smartwatch that can handle calls through your iPhone. An update to Fossil’s Gen 5 brings the same functionality to Wear OS for the first time.
But it probably won’t end up on other Wear OS watches.
Google won't let original photos go free. Photo: Apple
Google has confirmed it plans to fix a “bug” that gives iPhone owners unlimited high-resolution photo storage.
Some users believed the issue was actually a feature that could save Google “millions of dollars” in cloud storage. But Google has says it is unintended and it is working on a fix.

2020 will be the year Apple unveils its “most impressive hardware in some time,” according to a new report.
Alongside big upgrades for iPhone, Apple Watch and Mac, Cupertino also is expected to deliver its first augmented reality glasses. And they could kick-start an AR revolution.

Had enough of your regular smartphone protective case? Soon, you might be able to go full David Cronenberg body horror and get your hands on one that looks like it’s fashioned out of human skin.
Okay, so that gross description of the work of researchers at Telecom Paris is only partially accurate. Yes, it’s a design that is going to freak out a few people. However, there’s also some pretty nifty tech involved. Here’s what it can do.

“Apple is all-in on augmented reality. But where will it lead?” That’s a pretty standard view of Apple’s experiments with visual AR, aka overlaying virtual objects onto the real world, via the iPhone’s camera and screen.
But Apple is already providing a fully immersive AR overlay onto the real world, to millions of users — only it isn’t using a screen. AirPods are augmented reality. They are also a part of a new computing paradigm that Apple snuck into the world without telling anybody. This paradigm currently consists of AirPods, iPhone, Apple Watch and the HomePod. And it is as discreet and low-key as it is important.
Users can't wait to get their hands on iOS 13. Photo: Apple
iOS 13 is now running on an impressive 55% of all iPhone models introduced in the last four years. It has taken less than a month for adoption to reach that figure. And it puts iOS 13 on par with iOS 12.
iPadOS, now its very own operating system, has reached 41% of all iPads introduced during the same time period.

iOS updates usually prove pretty reliable. Even during the buggy beta phase of a new iOS version, the updates themselves usually run without a hitch. But sometimes they do get stuck. Or they seem like they got stuck.
Here’s how to tell the difference between those two scenarios. And, if your iOS update really did hang, what to do about it.
Apple Card demand is through the roof. Photo: Apple
Apple Card is off to smashing start, according to Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon.
During an earnings call this morning, Solomon updated investors on the status of Apple Card which launched in the US in August. Despite some skeptics worrying about Apple Card’s profitability, Solomon claims Apple Card is “the most successful credit-card launch ever.”

iOS 13 isn’t just about exciting new bugs. Apple did a lot of cleaning up and moving things around in its latest mobile operating system. One big, behind-the-scenes feature change comes in the iPhone’s Personal Hotspot. You can no longer turn it off. Or rather, you haven’t been able to turn it off for a while now. It’s just that iOS 13 finally makes it explicit.
However, this doesn’t mean your iPhone will constantly broadcast its hotspot status, or that it will run down your battery. In fact, this feature is now easier to understand, and more sensibly described, than ever. Here’s what the Personal Hotspot changes in iOS 13 mean.

iPhone sales in China are booming, according to the latest research note from UBS analyst Timothy Arcuri.

Apple reportedly plans to deploy its own 5G modems in iPhones by 2022. This “very aggressive” timeline will require Apple to carry out development, testing and certification.
Until then, Apple will use 5G modems developed by Qualcomm. After years of legal battling, the two companies put aside their differences earlier this year. Apple will likely ship its first 5G iPhone next year.

Strong demand for the iPhone 11 lineup could help Apple overtake Huawei in smartphone shipments during the fourth quarter of 2019.
Huawei has been clinging onto second place in global smartphone shipments since it leapfrogged Apple in early 2018. But iPhone 11 is selling so well that Apple just had to increase orders by 10%.
