If you were hoping to see new Mac and iPad Pro models during today’s Apple keynote, it looks like you could be sorely disappointed.

A huge Apple website leak that has confirmed the names of its next-generation iPhones contains no mention of new computers or tablets. It looks like we’ll have to wait a little longer for a Mac mini Pro, a cheaper MacBook, and iPads with Face ID.

Update: Today’s Apple event has come and gone with no mention of the 2018 iPad Pro.

Could Apple be moving the Smart Connector?

A mysterious cutout on an alleged leaked next-gen iPad Pro case suggests that Apple could be relocating the Smart Connector position on its new tablet — or even introducing a new connector or sensor altogether.

While the cutout isn’t explained, it does line up with previous reports suggesting that Apple would be moving the Smart Connector position closer to the Lightning port.

One of Apple’s manufacturing partners is enjoying a sizable boost in revenue off the back of increased orders for Face ID components.

Lumentum’s vertical-cavity-surface-emitting laser (VCSEL), a key component of the flood illuminator and dot projector inside iPhone X, is in high demand as Apple prepares its next-generation iPhone and iPad lineups for a fall debut.

2018 iPad Pro could take another design cue from iPhone X

There's now evidence to back up the assumption that the redesign of the 2018 iPad Pro will include rounded corners on the display.

It’s looking increasingly likely that the new iPad Pro models coming this fall will look like super-size iPhone X devices. That means no Home button and a nearly-edge-to-edge display.

Everyone has been assuming that this means the corners of the screen will be rounded too, and now there’s evidence of that.

Apple's Q3 2018 earnings are expected to be the weakest of the year.

Apple’s weakest earnings report of 2018 is set to be revealed today but it might also contain a few clues about the 2018 iPhone launch this fall.

Tim Cook and Apple CFO Luca Maestri will talk to investors on an open call at 2 p.m. Pacific. Analysts don’t expect a huge boost in iPhone sales and revenue (in fact some are downright pessimistic). However, Apple could pull out a few surprises like it did the last two quarters.

Per usual, Cult of Mac will be here to live-blog all the action starting at 1:30 p.m. (That’s when the earnings report typically lands.) Come join the fun!

Zagg Slim Book is my favorite keyboard case for iPad Pro [Review]

ZAGG Slim Book for iPad Pro
I’ve tried a lot of iPad Pro keyboards, but nothing beats the ZAGG Slim Book.

The 10.5-inch iPad Pro is officially my primary computing device.

For the past five months, I’ve used it for everything from browsing the web and watching YouTube videos at night, to researching and writing stories for Cult of Mac during the day. I can’t remember the last time I turned on my PC — it’s been a long time.

I wouldn’t have been able to use the iPad Pro for all of this without a great physical keyboard. I’ve tried a bunch of them. And for the past two months or so, I’ve been using Zagg’s excellent Slim Book.

Here’s why it’s my favorite keyboard case for iPad.

New evidence that confirms Apple is preparing a future iPad with Face ID has been spilled by the latest iOS 12 beta.

One developer has discovered that AvatarKit, the framework that powers Animoji, is now ready for iPad. It still requires a TrueDepth camera which can only be found in iPhone X for now, but it seems that will change when new iPads arrive this fall.

Apple still has a bunch of new devices up its sleeve for 2018 — not including the new iPhone lineup — but we won’t see any of it at WWDC.

A new report claims we can expect refreshed MacBook and MacBook Pro models, a more affordable machine to replace the MacBook Air, a new iPad Pro with Face ID, and a new Apple Watch. However, we’ll have to wait until later in the year to get our hands on them.

Developers and regular iOS users alike can all download the app to access information about sessions and other events that will be going down this week. The app comes with a new look too that makes videos more prominent than ever.
