Apple’s long-awaited entry into the smart home is finally about to become a reality. The company is reportedly preparing to launch its first dedicated smart home hub on October 13.

The device could give Apple its first real answer to products such as Amazon’s Echo Show and Google’s Nest Hub, according to an unconfirmed report published Wednesday.

Apple reportedly will unveil the new product alongside two other smart home devices: updated versions of the HomePod mini and Apple TV set-top box. All will be designed around the new AI-powered Siri digital assistant.

The iPhone Duo will ship with several unannounced StandBy faces that Apple didn’t reveal during the foldable’s unveiling or in its press materials. However, a leaker is spoiling the surprises by revealing at least five more StandBy faces for the Duo.

The foldable will also feature a new face editor similar to the Apple Watch face editor.

Plenty of new Macs are rumored to be waiting in the wings. Mostly, it’s about bringing the speedy new M6 processor to more models, but we can also look forward to the most radically redesigned MacBook in many years. And a better budget notebook, too.

Apple will reportedly put its own modems in every iPhone released next year, with no Qualcomm hardware left inside.

The move would conclude a years-long push to cut Qualcomm out of the iPhone. But Apple won’t be fully done with its old rival, thanks to a fresh patent deal.

The future of the Apple Vision Pro headset is reportedly in flux, with no internal agreement on the design of possible future models. In fact, a successor to the pricey mixed-reality headset might never see the light of day.

Apple’s AI pendant just hit a wall. The company reportedly postponed development of the rumored wearable, betting on Apple Watch and AirPods to carry its AI ambitions instead.

September 14, 2010: Security workers reportedly stop Apple CEO Steve Jobs at Japan’s Kansai International Airport. The reason? Jobs supposedly tried to bring ninja throwing stars onto his private plane while heading home from vacation. The “Steve Jobs ninja stars” story quickly becomes one of the most bizarre Apple stories ever.

The company, however, quickly spoils the internet’s fun. Cupertino issues a statement describing the reports as “pure fiction” (although Apple acknowledges that Jobs visited Japan over the summer).

Apple’s Surprise and Shine product launch event is now in the rearview mirror, but that doesn’t mean the company is finished unveiling new products. Cupertino still has plenty of hardware in the pipeline, with several new Macs and iPads expected before 2026 comes to a close.

And the product pipeline doesn’t stop there. Apple is also expected to have more new hardware ready in early 2027, making the next several months a busy period for the company.

Here’s what we have to look forward to.

iPhone Duo doesn’t use Face ID, but adding facial recognition to the foldable is reportedly on Apple’s roadmap. And so is the third camera that so many people want!

A new report says facial recognition and a telephoto camera are Apple’s top priorities for future versions of its new folding phone. Apple Intelligence could be the key to both.

Visual Intelligence ads could be headed for your iPhone. Code buried in iOS 27 suggests Apple is exploring a new way to slip sponsored results into its camera-based search tool.

The change won’t have Apple selling the ad slots directly. Instead, search providers like Google may supply sponsored images. And these could sit right on top of the results Visual Intelligence already shows you.

Apple’s Edge Light feature may soon make the jump from Mac to iPhone. Code in the iOS 27 release candidate suggests the glowing screen-border effect could be coming to the iPhone Duo. It could eventually make its way to other iPhone models, too.

The discovery comes from an analysis of Apple’s latest software beta. The code points to the Mac feature being adapted for iPhone, creating a soft ring of light around the edge of the display. The catch is that it’s still an early build, and some key settings aren’t finished yet.

The Apple TV Remote app receives a sneaky upgrade in iOS 27. Apple tucked away two new features inside the app’s redesigned interface, and they’re hiding in plain sight.

The changes first surfaced in the iOS 27 release candidate. One of them brings a full app launcher to the remote, while the other surfaces streaming recommendations on the remote screen.

Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro lineup apparently won’t get the huge price hike that many people predicted/feared. The new models will cost slightly more than their predecessors, according to a last-minute leak, but don’t expect a massive jump.

The same leak also covers previously rumored design details, such as big camera upgrades. The Pro Max will reportedly pack a variable-aperture lens for depth-of-field control and better low-light images. And for better heat dissipation, Apple will seemingly add vapor chamber cooling to the new iPhones.

Apple will call its first foldable iPhone the iPhone Duo, with a starting price of $2,000, according to a last-minute report. The starting price is lower than many previous predictions. But those who opt for configurations wth additional storage could pay nearly $3,000.

When Apple released the cosmic orange iPhone 17 Pro last year, it did the unthinkable: It made the color orange both cool and commonplace.

Since then, a growing number of tech companies have embraced orange, producing a wide range of iPhone accessories and other gear in the surprisingly bold color. Now, the only question is, can Apple do it again … this time with dark cherry?

Even before Apple’s expected unveiling of the iPhone 18 Pro lineup during tomorrow’s Surprise and Shine event, it looks like the company might have another hit color on its hands.

The watchOS 27 Readiness app could be the Apple Watch’s most interesting new feature. It’s still hiding in unreleased beta code, with no interface in sight. But clues suggest it could reshape how your wrist tracks recovery.

Apple could finally be making a game controller. Buried code in a recent macOS beta points to two unreleased designs, and they seem to be built for very different kinds of players.

The references showed up in a test build of macOS Tahoe 26.7 before Apple pulled them. One points to a bare-bones wired controller. The other looks like a full-featured wireless model packed with sensors no third-party controller offers on the Mac today.
