New subscription gaming service Apple Arcade is here1, and it looks like an incredible deal. For just $5 per month, everyone in your family gets unlimited access to dozens of exclusive games (with a free month-long trial to check it out). Even better for parents, there are no in-app purchases in Apple Arcade, so your kids won’t be begging you to buy more coins or whatever every five minutes.
However, they can still spend way too much time on games when they should be out playing with kilometer-zero, organic wooden toys, or pretending that old washing machine delivery box is a panic room. Thankfully, Apple’s own Screen Time feature already works with Apple Arcade, so you can restrict access to any and all games.

The very first iPhone 11 reviews are out, which means it’s time to find out whether that $699+ you just spent on an upgrade was worth it. And you probably won’t be surprised to hear the results.
Apple’s most affordable iPhone this year, just like its predecessor, is a hit with critics. It is getting heaps of praise for its improved cameras, even longer battery life, and bolstered performance.
There are a few complaints, however. Find out what reviewers think of the iPhone 11 right here.
The question is: Do you really need all those pro features? Photo: Apple
There’s no question about it: The iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max are two of the best iPhones Apple ever built — and arguably the best handsets in the world right now.
That’s according to the first reviews for the devices, whose embargoes lifted this morning. All agree on the new iPhones’ excellent camera, amazing battery life, and beautiful display. But is it that much better than the regular iPhone 11? That’s where folks in our iPhone 11 Pro review roundup disagree.
iPhone 11 will debut in India soon, and might be manufactured there too. Photo: Apple (India)
Apple is reportedly spending $1 billion on growing its production capacity in India. This is part of an ongoing move away from the tariffs that will soon be levied on iPhones assembled in China.
It might also help increase Apple’s sales in India.
Add plugs for many types of accessories to your Mac or iPad Pro with this Satechi adapter. Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac
The Apple Store has just two USB-C hubs with multiple types of ports, and one of them is made by Satechi. This offers USB-A and HDMI ports, as well as dual memory card readers, but so do many other accessories. What makes the Aluminum USB-C Multiport Pro Adapter so good that Apple picked it from all the other USB-C hubs on the market?

It’s amazing what your Mac can deliver through a single headphone jack. Stereo audio is great, but to experience its full potential, you’ll need a little help.

Apple is inviting iOS 13 beta testers to try Apple Arcade too. Photo: Apple
The wait for Apple’s all-you-can-play gaming service is over for some people beta testing iOS 13. The Apple Arcade launch isn’t supposed to come until Thursday. However, many people running betas of the next version of Apple’s mobile operating system already started playing.
You can shoot studio portraits anywhere. Photo: Apple
Whenever I open up the For You tab in the Photos app, every single “effect suggestion” is Brighten this Portrait Photo with Studio Lighting. Every single one. I’m not even exaggerating. And I’m never interested, because Studio Lighting, along with all the other Portrait Lighting effects, is junk. Now, though, with iOS 13’s new High-Key Light Mono effect, there’s at least one Portrait Lighting effect worth using.
Here’s why High-Key Mono looks great — and how to use it.
The iPhone 11 is one of the first devices with Wi-Fi 6. Photo: Apple/Wi-Fi Alliance
An overlooked feature of the iPhone 11 series is Wi-Fi 6, a faster version of this nearly ubiquitous short-range wireless-networking standard.
And it’s not just about speed. This update is expected to offer better performance when dozens of hundreds of devices are all trying to connect to Wi-Fi at once.

If you’re planning to upgrade to Apple Watch Series 5, you might have thought about selling old model back to Apple. But that’s a terrible idea.
Apple will offer you just a fraction of what your old Apple Watch is really worth. It pays a maximum of $110 for Series 4 units introduced just a year ago, and only $70 for a Series 3.
Make a lot more cash by selling your Watch to Cult of Mac instead. You’ll find your shiny new upgrade ends up being a lot cheaper than you expected.
Multi-cam recording won't be exclusive to the 2019 iPhone lineup. Photo: Apple
One of iPhone 11’s hottest camera features is also making its way to older devices.
The ability to record from multiple cameras simultaneously will be available on iPhone XR, iPhone XS and XS Max, and the 2018 iPad Pro when iOS 13 rolls out to everyone later this week.
Think twice about buying the new 10.2-inch iPad if you’re a frequent Microsoft Office user.
Microsoft’s rather strange policy on tablet use will almost certainly mean you’ll lose out on free Office access if you upgrade to Apple’s newest slate. And a subscription will cost you $9.99 a month.

You might want to avoid the Apple Store if you plan on picking up a brand new Apple Watch Series 5 this week. Amazon is already offering a $50 discount on some models for a limited time.
Prices start at just $384.99 (down from $399) for a 40mm devices with GPS.
iPhone 11 is enjoying stronger demand than analysts anticipated. Photo: Apple
Analysts have started raising iPhone 11 shipping estimates after surprisingly strong demand for Apple’s newest handsets.
Initial stock of most models quickly sold out after Apple starting accepting preorders on Friday, September 13. It seems fans are particularly interested in the brand new color options.

Wireless charging stands hold your iPhone up so you can easily see the display while the handset is getting power. Belkin has a model that improves on the whole concept: it can charge your device when it’s propped up in either portrait or landscape mode.
Apple liked the design enough to add it to the Apple Store. See what we think in our review.
