iPhone 16 review roundup
Early reviews say iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are worthy upgrades from older models.

Early reviews for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus say the base handsets close the gap between them and the Pro models. With the new Action and Camera Control buttons, the powerful new A18 chip, camera improvements and the promise of upcoming Apple Intelligence functionality, users with older models have plenty of reason to upgrade from older models (especially iPhone Series 14 and older). Read our iPhone 16 review roundup to find out more.

Apple Watch 10 review roundup: More refined than revamped

That glossy Jet Black color is new to the Apple Watch 10 aluminum cases this year.

As Apple Watch celebrates its 10th anniversary, Series 10 has arrived with a suite of refinements rather than revolutionary changes, our Apple Watch 10 review roundup found. And that’s despite the fact that a redesign took place to make the wearable larger yet slimmer. Let’s dive into what reviewers say this latest iteration brings to the table, including a larger display, faster charging and sleep apnea detection.

The first reviews of Apple AirPods 4 are in to answer the question, how well does active noise cancellation work without foam ear tips? The consensus: pretty well.

Early reviewers of the new wireless earbuds also had plenty to say about fit, sound quality and more.

Bouncy kickstand makes Zagg’s rugged iPad case unbearable [Review] ★★☆☆☆

By

Zagg Denali review: Rugged but flawed iPad case★★☆☆☆
You'd think something really bouncy would be fun. But not when it's your iPad.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

Zagg offers an array of excellent accessories for Apple devices. Its Denali case for the latest iPad Pro models is not one of them. The case protects the tablet from drops of 6.5 feet and includes a snap-on screen protector and kickstand, but a couple of significant design problems make this a product to walk away from.

I (unfortunately) tested the Denali with my 13-inch iPad Pro so I’m well familiar with its issues.

Best MagSafe cables and chargers for iPhone 16

These are the best MagSafe cables and chargers for iPhone 16.
MagSafe is the best way to charge your new iPhone.
Photo: Killian Bell/EdHardy/Cult of Mac

There’s no better way to charge your new iPhone 16 than with MagSafe. Pick the right charger and it’s as fast as a cable. And even when it’s a bit slower, it’s certainly the simplest and most convenient option. And, let’s face it, plugging in a cable is nowhere near as satisfying as that snap you hear when slapping a MagSafe accessory onto the back of your iPhone.

If you’ll be experiencing MagSafe for the first time with iPhone 16, it’s time to stock up on cables, charging stations and battery packs. Here are the best available right now.

Full-size travel keyboard with numpad folds to be surprisingly portable [Review] ★★★★

ProtoArc XK01 Tri-Fold Bluetooth Keyboard review★★★★
ProtoArc XK01 offers all this but folds for easy stowing.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

The ProtoArc XK01 Tri-Fold Bluetooth Keyboard is ready to make your business trips more productive. It’s full size, with a numpad and function keys, too. But it folds down to fit easily in a briefcase.

It’s available solo, or with a travel mouse, or as the centerpiece of a bundle with the mouse plus a USB-C hub and multi-port wall charger.

I fully tested the folding keyboard with my 13-inch iPad Pro, plus the other components, too.

The ultimate under-seat bag for gear-toting frequent flyers [Review] ★★★★★

WaterField Designs' brilliant X-Air Duffel lets you carry all your Apple gear in style.
Photo: Lewis Wallace/Cult of Mac

WaterField Designs’ X-Air Duffel is a carry-on duffel bag that solves many problems for frequent fliers. High-quality components and an incredibly well-thought-out design make it one of the best under-seat luggage options around — especially for anybody who tends to carry a lot of Apple gear.

Meticulously crafted, with loads of luxurious details, it’s roomy enough to hold a couple of days’ worth of clothing. And yet it’s still small enough to cram under most airlines’ seats. Dedicated compartments safely hold your MacBook, iPad and other devices, keeping them well organized for in-flight use.

This Vision Pro accessory is an absolute must-have [Review] ★★★★★

Black and white studio lit portrait photo of the ANNAPRO Comfort Head Strap on a Vision Pro sitting on a pine surface★★★★★
It makes the weirdest-looking Apple product look even weirder.
Photo: D. Griffin Jones/Cult of Mac

The Pressure-Reducing Comfort Head Strap for Apple Vision Pro by Annapro is an absolute must-have game-changing accessory. It makes using the headset in its default mixed-reality mode far more engaging and comfortable, as it lets you use the device without Apple’s peripheral-blinding Light Seal. It also enables more people to use the more comfortable Solo Knit band, so it’s incredibly easy to put on and take off.

Annapro’s head strap makes the Vision Pro less like putting on ski goggles and more like putting on big glasses. It’s a small change that has radically impacted how I think about the device. And at a highly affordable $39.99, it’s a no-brainer accessory that every Vision Pro owner should pick up … all 200 of them.

Zagg Crystal Palace case lets your iPad shine through [Review] ★★★☆☆

By

Zagg Crystal Palace iPad case★★★☆☆
Zagg Crystal Palace protects your iPad while still showing it off.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

The Zagg Crystal Palace solves a vexing problem for iPad users: you want to show off your gorgeous iPad but you need to protect it too. That’s why most of this folio case is transparent. Nevertheless, it provides 6.5 feet of drop protection.

It also acts as a stand, and there’s a useful Apple Pencil holder.

Zagg’s case offers plenty of great features, but an unfortunate design flaw in the cover flap makes it hard for me to recommend this product.

Acefast 218W power station makes a stylish addition to your desk [Review] ★★★★

Acefast 218W charging station★★★★
The Acefast 218W charging station is a great accessory for your desk.
Photo: Rajesh Pandey/Cult of Mac

If your family owns several devices, it is important to own a good charging solution to ensure you can quickly and simultaneously top up everything. I typically relied on power bricks — despite them not being the best for the job. But then I switched to the Acefast Z4 218W power station, a sleek-looking, four-in-one charging station that pumps out plenty of power.

Read my Acefast Z4 218W power station review to learn why this capable accessory deserves a spot on your desk, thanks to an ideal mix of style and substance.

EZQuest USB-C Slim Gen 2 Hub Adapter 6-in-1 review★★★★☆
Connect a USB-C monitor to your Mac or iPad with this USB-C hub from EZQuest -- no HDMI port needed.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

After years of waiting, there’s finally a travel hub that can handle a USB-C external display. And the EZQuest USB-C Slim Gen 2 Hub Adapter 6-in-1 can charge a computer while connecting it to up to four other accessories. Plus it’s small enough to go anywhere.

I tested the hub and am really quite pleased, though it does get a bit warmer than I like.

ESR Rebound Magnetic Keyboard Case 360 for iPad review★★★★☆
ESR Rebound Magnetic Keyboard Case 360 lets iPad users type in portrait mode, not only landscape.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

ESR’s Rebound Magnetic Keyboard Case 360 includes a protective case for an iPad as well as a keyboard and trackpad. It offers typing with the tablet in portrait or landscape, a trick Apple’s own case/keyboard can’t match. You also can use the case when you leave the keyboard behind.

I tested it with my 13-inch iPad Pro. Here are my hands-on impressions.

The Instigators is old-school action-comedy fun [3 Reasons to Watch]

By

Hong Chau, Casey Affleck and Matt Damon in
Hong Chau, Casey Affleck go on the lam in The Instigators..
Photo: Apple TV+

New Apple TV+ action comedy The Instigators is getting a bad rap. The action-comedy about a Boston heist gone wrong, which stars Matt Damon and Casey Affleck, currently achieves a lackluster 41% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. But those critics are missing the point. The Instigators is an unpretentious buddy film that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

The critics who panned the movie apparently don’t know how to sit back and enjoy a fun flick. (The Instigators’ audience score sits at a much higher 71%.) Here are three reasons you should give this underappreciated action-comedy a stream on Apple TV+.

Elevate your iPad with this cover/stand combo [Review] ★★★★

Logitech Keys-to-Go 2 review★★★★
Mageasy Lift case/stand brings your iPad up to nearly eye level.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

Mageasy Lift Standing & Folding Folio iPad Case folds into a stand that raises your tablet screen up closer to eye level. It’s a trick that really helps it stand out from the competition (see what I did there?).

It can also be folded into other shapes to provide a range of viewing angles. And when on the go, the case wraps completely around the iPad to protect it.

I tested the Lift with my 2024 iPad Pro.

Chargeasap Zeus 280W: A GaN charger for all your needs [Review] ★★★★☆

By

Chargeasap Zeus 280W charger★★★★☆
This GaN charger has all the power you'll ever need
Photo: Rajesh Pandey/Cult of Mac

You can find plenty of multiport GaN chargers to help charge your Apple devices on the go. But things get a bit complicated if you want a power brick that can fast charge multiple MacBooks at once. Chargeasap solved this problem with its Zeus 280W power adapter, which the company calls the “world’s first and smallest 280W charger.”

So, what makes the Zeus 280W special? For starters, it can fast charge two 16-inch MacBook Pros at once, a feat that only a few other power bricks can match. Our review will help you decide if this 280W powerhouse is worth buying instead of other GaN chargers.

EarFun’s top new noise-canceling earbuds: Great sound, great price [Review] ★★★★

EarFun Air Pro 4 earbuds★★★★
Once again, EarFun brings great value with its excellent new Air Pro 4 wireless noise-canceling earbuds.
Photo: David Snow/Cult of Mac

EarFun launched its new flagship Air Pro 4 active noise-canceling (ANC) wireless earbuds Monday, calling them “the world’s first Auracast-supported earbuds under $100.” And the new buds run true to form for EarFun. They’re great-sounding, well-equipped earbuds that present an excellent value at a list price of $90. And EarFun Air Pro 4 present an even better value with the launch discount (see below).

Chargeasap Connect Pro review★★★★☆
Chargeasap Connect Pro can juice up an iPad but also your old micro-USB devices.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

Chargeasap Connect Pro is a charging and data cable with a built-in power meter and swappable magnetic connectors. It’s ready to power up a broad variety of devices at up to 100W, and iPhone at up to 27W.

The high-quality cable is 4.75 feet long, and it comes with three magnetic connectors. And with the meter, you always know how much current is flowing.

I tested it with my Apple devices, and a bunch of others, too. Here’s how it performed.

Lululook 360 Rotating Foldable Magnetic iPad Charging Stand review★★★★
This stand not only supports your iPad, it also provides cable-free charging.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

Imagine putting your iPad onto a stand and it immediately begins charging, without needing to plug it in. That’s possible with the Lululook 360 Rotating Foldable Magnetic iPad Charging Stand.

It’s very flexible, doesn’t take up the tablet’s USB-C port, and works with a variety iPad Pro and iPad Air models, including the ones released in 2024.

I love this accessory. Absolutely love it. Here’s why.

Take gaming on the go with Scuf’s iPhone game controller [Review] ★★★★

By

Scuf Nomad review: iPhone game controller★★★★
Scuf Nomad is one of the best iPhone game controllers I've tested.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

The new Scuf Nomad makes playing advanced games on your iPhone much more fun by adding physical buttons, triggers and sticks. It’s designed to go where you go, and works on nearly every iPhone.

The controller emphasizes customization, allowing you to change what the buttons do even if the game itself doesn’t support that. And there are rear paddles in addition to all the usual controls.

I happily played hours of games on the Nomad — here’s what it’s like to use.

Quirky compact keyboard doesn’t sacrifice practicality [Review] ★★★★☆

Wombat Willow Pro keyboard on desk★★★★☆
It has a fun, playful color scheme.
Photo: D. Griffin Jones/Cult of Mac

The Willow Wombat Pro is a great keyboard without much compromise. It’s mechanical, with comfortable key switches to type on all day, but it’s not loud. It’s narrow, but it still has all 102 keys, with an unusual key layout. It’s thin, but it’s not flimsy: It’s sturdy and well-made.

The whimsical yellow color scheme will also add a flash of color and flair to your Mac setup. Buy it now on Amazon or keep reading below.

Charming retro wireless speaker packs a punch and connects to anything [Review] ★★★★☆

By

Edifier D32 Tabletop Wireless Speaker★★★★☆
Here's the Edifier D32 Tabletop Wireless Speaker in black walnut.
Photo: David Snow/Cult of Mac

Using a time machine, the new Edifier D32 Tabletop Speaker could show up in the 1950s without raising an eyebrow, given its retro-cool design. But it sure would surprise everyone, not being a radio and failing to do anything at all because the necessary audio technology didn’t exist yet. But in the here and now, those who like the old-school look will find the box packs a sonic punch and connects to practically anything that streams audio.

So whether you’re a Mac user seeking a stylish addition to your desktop setup or someone with a space that needs a substantial audio source — even the living room of a small house or apartment — the D32 is poised to impress, especially for its very reasonable price. I can’t say it’s perfect, given some connectivity struggles, but it’s great.

Awesome Apps

New game Roia challenges players to guide a river down a mountain by rearranging the terrain. It’s another unique premise from Emoak, a team of developers with a history of creating standout games.

I spent a couple of hours playing it on my iPhone, and found the game to be demanding but also relaxing. And not like anything I’ve played before.

Edifier W830NB noise-canceling headphones: Big features, small price tag [Review] ★★★★☆

Edifier W830NB headphones review★★★★☆
If you only have $80 to spend, Edifier's new W830NB is a good choice. Shown here in "sandwhite," but also available in black and gray.
Photo: David Snow/Cult of Mac

Looking for good Bluetooth headphones that won’t throttle your wallet? In this Edifier W830NB headphones review, I look at Edifier’s latest noise canceling set. They might just be your ticket to affordable listening.

Following up on its W820NB model, Edifier packs serious punch for the price in this $80 pair (or $63 for Amazon Prime Day!). Just don’t expect them to beat out top-shelf cans from the likes of Apple and Sony.

DodoCase English Bridle Leather iPad Case★★★★★
DodoCase English Bridle Leather iPad Case is elegant and professional.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

An iPad is practically a work of art — don’t put it in a cheap plastic case. Wrap your iPad in English Bridle Leather with the latest handcrafted product from DodoCase.

It’s a carrying case, and folds into a stand when you’re ready to work. And there’s an Apple Pencil holder, too.

I’ve been testing one with my M4 iPad Pro, and I’m quite taken with the look. And the design, too.

Add Logitech Keys-to-Go 2 keyboard to your iPad without bulking it up [Review] ★★★★☆

Logitech Keys-to-Go 2 review★★★★☆
Logitech Keys-to-Go 2 helps make you productive wherever you go.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

Logitech Keys-to-Go 2 for iPad is the portable keyboard for those who need to type on the go but don’t want a keyboard built into their tablet’s case. It’s a standalone accessory designed to travel with a tablet or be left behind when it’s not needed.

I tested the very slim and lightweight product with my iPad Pro and my iPhone 15. Its extreme portability makes it useful in situations that more typical keyboards are not.
