SpaceXAI launched Grok Bot for iPhone and Mac in beta on Tuesday, giving some subscribers access to AI agents that can handle real tasks across apps, inboxes and websites.
Each bot runs on its own cloud computer, meaning a task keeps moving even after you close your laptop.
How Grok Bot for iPhone and Mac works
The next phase of AI isn’t about getting better answers from a chatbot. It’s about getting practical things done. Grok Bot is SpaceXAI’s attempt to turn an AI assistant into something closer to a digital employee, giving it a cloud computer, access to your apps and websites, and enough autonomy to carry a task from start to finish while you’re nowhere near your computer.
It seems similar to the expanded capabilities coming to Siri AI across Apple’s platforms later this year, although Grok Bot sounds more ambitious.
However, this kind of autonomy comes with a hefty subscription price if you want to use Grok Bot now. It also raises familiar, unanswered questions about how much control users should hand over to an AI agent that can actually act on their behalf.
Built to handle real-world tasks, mostly on its own
How will Grok Bot handle the messy reality of everyday work, where the goal isn’t a clever response but an inbox cleared, an expense report filed or a bug fixed?
Every Grok Bot gets a dedicated cloud machine. The setup lets a bot sign in to the tools you already use, and it even works on sites with no official app programming interface. Moreover, the bot can carry out multistep tasks without pausing after every click.
Users start a task the same way they would text a co-worker. Simply type out what needs to get done, hit send, and you are good to go. The bot will message you back when it finishes the job or requires approval on a decision.
SpaceXAI says Grok Bot also remembers earlier conversations. It can pick up how a person likes tasks handled, and gets better at matching that style over time.
And the company says Grok Bot has been delivering the goods during internal testing. A product staffer named Roman described the shift from typical AI help to Grok Bot in simple terms.
“There is a huge difference between 90% done and 100% done,” Roman said in a company blog post announcing the launch.
Multiple bots, one team
Grok Bot is designed to run more than one agent at a time. A person can set up a lead bot to manage several specialists — each handling different tasks like inbox triage, expense reports or bug fixes.
Bots can also sit together in a group chat. They split up work on their own, pass tasks between each other, and even decide who owns what. The only time they loop in the human user is when a call requires real judgment.
SpaceXAI says its own staff already leans on this setup for daily use. Teams there use Grok Bot for sales outreach and marketing campaigns, office operations, invoice processing, recruiting and bug reports.
Teaching a Grok Bot your workflow
Grok Bot learns by watching. Ask it to shadow a task once, and it saves each step as a routine. It can also repeat that routine later without fresh instructions.
A SpaceXAI sales staffer named Bennett said the payoffs show up pretty fast.
“I feel like I’m 2-3x more efficient,” Bennett said, describing work the bot now runs without any supervision.
Who can use it now
The Grok Bot beta is available now for iPhone, iPad and Mac (on Apple silicon and Intel processors). It also works on Windows and Linux, with an Android app coming soon. However, you’ll need a SuperGrok Heavy, Cursor Ultra or Cursor Teams Premium subscription to use it. Enterprise customers can join a waitlist for future access.
SpaceXAI is working to acquire Cursor and fold the AI coding platform into its business. The $60 billion all-stock deal, which would tie Cursor more closely to Grok’s roadmap, likely will close this month.
“SpaceXAI and @cursor_ai are now working closely together to create the world’s best coding and knowledge work AI,” SpaceX posted on X in April. “The combination of Cursor’s leading product and distribution to expert software engineers with SpaceX’s million H100 equivalent Colossus training supercomputer will allow us to build the world’s most useful models.”
For now, Grok Bot remains in early beta. SpaceXAI has not clarified when a wider release might arrive for iPhone and Mac users outside the current subscription tiers.
