AT&T is finally unlocking iPhones at the end of a completed contract, but if you bought the new iPhone 4S you’re going to be waiting another 18 months or so until your phone is eligible for an official carrier unlock. What if you want to use your iPhone on T-Mobile, or maybe go overseas and use a local carrier rather than pay for some crazy out of coverage fees? Fortunately, hacker Loktar_Sun has discovered an incredibly easy way to unlock your iPhone 4S or any other iPhone. The process is super easy – all you need is a jailbroken iPhone, and these 13 easy-to-follow steps.

There are few photo editing apps on for the iPad that are as versitle and easy to use as Snapseed while also giving users some great tools to make photos look better. It’s the best photo editting app on the iPad, but earlier today Snapseed released a new update for the app that makes it even better.

Rush Limbaugh’s iPhone 4S has been hacked. Maybe it’s Obama, maybe it’s those pesky Anonymous guys, or even that teenager down the street who just wants the lulz, but one thing for certain is that Rush Limbaugh, one of America’s most polarizing political figures, had some crazy stuff happen to him while using Siri on his drive to work this week, and he thinks the main culprit is Obama’s minions trying to give him the spooks.

I wish we were creative enough to make this up, but it’s a “true” story…. if by true, you mean that Rush Limbaugh actually said something this wacky. On his show earlier this week Rush told his listeners how he was using Siri on his way to work, per usual, when he started getting some crazy replies from Apple’s virtual assistant, including this winner: “Obama’s minions are taking over and there’s nothing you can do about it.”

The entire story is pretty hilarious well worth the read, and we got the full transcript after the break.

I dropped my brand new iPad two days ago. The screen cracked in the corner. Tears flowed. It was the most horrific sight ever, made only worse by the fact that I refused to buy AppleCare+. Learning lessons the hard way is never fun, but mostly, I’m just pissed that I didn’t hear about this crazy screen protector that can absorb heavy amounts of damage while leaving an iDevice’s screen perfectly intact.

What’s your favorite new possession? If you don’t say your new iPad, there’s probably something wrong with you, or maybe you just haven’t had the blessed opportunity to feel the sweet sweet love of resolutionary pixels titillating your eyeballs. The iPad is great, and according to 10% of men, the iPad is better than sex.

Steve Jobs’ career is usually discussed in two major segments – his early years when he co-founded Apple with Woz, and then the latter end of his life when he returned to Apple and resurrected the company with one hit product after another. But 11 years passed between the time that Steve was kicked out of Apple and the time he returned to save the company. Many people call those his “Wilderness Years” as he struggled to cope with getting kicked out of Apple.

What many view as a dark period of exile, Brent Schlender claims it was actually one of the happiest periods in Jobs’ life. Writing a new article for Fast Company about Steve Jobs time in exile, Schlender rediscovered his trove of lost interview tapes he recorded with Jobs during those “Wilderness Years.”

The entire article is riddled with new Steve Jobs quotes and ideas that haven’t been heard before, but here are the eight best:

Or hope Transportation Security Administration agent Clayton Dovel isn’t on duty that day – which he probably won’t be because he just got busted for stealing a bunch of iPads from travelers’ luggage.

If you’ve ever wanted to own a rare piece of Apple history that looks like totally rad then this new eBay listing for a Prototype Apple eMate 300 might be the perfect. The only eMates Apple produced had a solid dark green casing rather than the clear casing you see above. The seller estimates only 6 or so of these clear eMate 300s were produced and it looks quite similar to the first generation iBook that derived a lot of inspiration from the eMate series.

We’ve told you guys all about the new Steve Jobs film starring Ashton Kutcher. It’s not the blockbuster film based on Walter Isaacson’s biography Sony is working on, but many Apple fans have kept close eyes on the independent film as production has started to ramp up. Now that we know Kutcher will be playing Jobs, a recent interview with producer Mark Hulme revealed the movie’s title – Jobs: Get Inspired – and that the plot of the film will cover Jobs’ life from 1971-2000.

Despite my desire for this movie to be great, we keep hearing new details that reinforce that the flick is bound to be terrible. Mark Hulme’s recent interview only exacerbated my dread. Rather than being able to pull a Kathryn Bigelow and drop an amazing indie movie out of nowhere, the team behind Jobs: Get Inspired are probably destined to lay a dud.

Here are five signs why Jobs: Get Inspired is probably going to be terrible:

Apple has been dreaming big since like forever. Even when they knew current technology couldn’t support their crazy dreams, they’d still throw wacky but brilliant ideas around. The iPhone didn’t change the world until it was launched in 2007, but Apple had been dreaming up “iPhone” concepts 24 years earlier.

This particular Apple Phone concept was created back in 1983 by Hartmut Esslinger from Apple’s design firm Frogdesigns. It features a touch-screen, apps, touch-screen keyboard, and even one of those pesky stylus things that Steve Jobs hated so much.

Maybe it couldn’t have mass produced these suckers back in 1983, but take a look at what could have been a phenomenal Apple product:

Over the last couple of months Sharp has been rumored to be Apple’s partner for producing the LCDs of the mysterious “iTV” the world is waiting for. While analysts, such as Peter Misek, have been linking Sharp to Apple for a while now, definitive proof of their connection has yet to surface. However, adding to the rumors, Sharp announced today that they have begun production on 32-inch Hi-DPI LCD’s displays this March that could be used in Apple’s new iMac line that is expected to be unveiled in June.

Meet the world’s newest super-yacht, Adastra. It’s like looking at the embodiment of sex on water. She’s like the hottest chick from your high school that knows she’s fine and there ain’t nothing you can do to attain her as she floats by laughing at your pitiful life that will never glimpse her interior.

Not only is Adastra fine as hell, but she’s smart too, and ultra high-tech. She’s so high-tech that the entire yacht can be controlled remotely by an iPad, while the crew is frolicking on the shores of some fantasy island. After drooling over Adastra’s gorgeous metal and glass hull I can’t help but think this yacht would have been perfect for Steve Jobs.

Now that Mark Zuckerberg controls your hipster, vintage-inspired photos that you took with Instagram, you might be feeling weighed down with the fear that your favorite photography app will see some major changes. I cried for a few minutes, then I realized that I never used Instagram to edit photos because its filters were actually very limited and pretty crappy. There’s tons of better apps out there. If for whatever reason you’re scared to stick with the new Instagram controlled by Facebook, there are plenty of alternatives to Instagram… and in many ways most of them are better. Take a look at these five awesome Instagram alternatives.

Remember those funny animated videos from Taiwan, one of which depicted Steve Jobs as a throwing-star toting ninja? The videos were always silly yet slightly informative, but recent news about the company behind them says they might be a thing of the past. Next Media Ltd is trying to sell off their animation division for $500million after suffering heavy cash losses over the past year or so, which may spell an end to funny animated news.

Did you just hear the news that Facebook paid a BILLION dollars for Instagram? Yeah, it’s crazy. I’m still dumbfounded by the news and mourning the loss of one of my favorite social networks. Sure, Zuck says that Instagram is going to operate as an independent entity and that they’re not going to make any changes. But I’m not buying it. How long will it be til Instagram is pressured to start monetizing their 30million+ users? And how are they gonna make that cheddar? Convert it in to a Facebook esque interface with recommendations and pop-up ads?

My friends, the world is a changing, and Instagram as we know it might not ever be the same again. Maybe I’m panicking worse than the First Class passengers on the Titanic. Maybe everything’s fine. Maybe it’s not. The Mothership; Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, California, is one of the more exclusive corporate buildings in the world. Apple employees can’t even walk some cooridoors without permission, so your chances of getting inside Apple’s compound and exploring the secrets of the building are pretty slim unless your name is Barack Obama. Even then, Apple will probably call security as soon as you try to get past the Atrium. I’ve never had the good fortune to go inside the Apple campus like a few lucky souls have, but thanks to magical powers of the internet, peons like you and I can now glimpse inside One Infinite Loop to see how the Apple Elite work.

Tax season is either the happiest or most dreadful season of the year depending on whether or not you owe The Man fat stacks of mad cheddar. If you haven’t started your taxes yet, then you either love the thrill of crunch time, or you’re as bad a procrastinator as my poor Uncle Bernie who hates the IRS more than Ron Paul. When doing taxes this year our reader Chris Barry noticed a Steve Jobs tribute on the loading screen for TurboTax.

The words in the background scroll across the screen at varying speeds and sizes, but the phrase “Thanking Steve Jobs” comes up a few times. Classy touch by Intuit. We’re uncertain who placed the Steve Jobs tribute in TurboBox or why, but we do know Scott Cook, co-founder of Intuit, was a big fan of Steve Jobs and has talked about how big an influence Jobs was to him.

This morning we posted a story wondering why Apple hasn’t posted any billboards for the new iPad yet. Usually Apple posts new billboards almost immediately after a product is announced, but some old iPad 2 billboards are still lingering around the country with nary a glimpse of big sign adage for the new iPad. Well it looks like the new iPad billboards have just started to roll out. We just got the above picture from our Twitter follower that shows the first billboard for the new iPad, spotted in Hollywood CA. The billboard focuses almost completely on the new retina screen of the iPad rather than focusing on the design of the device like the iPad 2 billboards had.

If you didn’t hear the news, Android got a slick new Instagram app this morning that has brought salvation to millions of smartphone users across the globe. Finally, we can all take pretty ugly pictures of nature and cats and food and post them with the loving assurance that they are viewable to 80% of of the world’s smartphone users. Horray! Instagram is finally a really awesome global party!

Well stop right there with the happiness, because a lot of iPhone users are pissed that Instagram came out with an Android app. Twitter has been flooded all day with elitest iPhone owners bemoaning the flood of “ghetto” “poor”  Android toting riff raff smashing into their beautiful walled zen garden. The sheer abundance of snooty pretentiousness is enough to give a sensible person a lethal dose of dysentery.

Crappy internships have become a sort of initiation process that American students subject themselves to in order to enter the workplace. Working for free for 4 months – making copies, fetching coffee, and filing paperwork – sounds like hell for a lot of American students, who love to complain about the hardships of their internships.

Well, turns out American interns have a pretty beautiful life compared to their Chinese counterparts at Foxconn who are forced into internships that resemble slave labor and are told they will not graduate unless they spend months working on the production lines.

Tim Cook has been in office as Apple’s official CEO for over 200 days now, so how’s he doing? Is he still living in Jobs’ shadow, or has he been busy leaving his own mark on Cupertino. And what about those crazy new rumors about the iPhone we’ve been hearing? Is there any truth to them? We’ve already seen some pretty crazy uses of the iPad and iPhone in spy movies, but it looks like iOS is getting an official nod of approval as a mobile operating system worthy to be used in spy games. The Australian government just approved iPhones and iPads to be used for the storing and sharing of classified documents, meaning Ethan Hunt wannabes Down Under can look even more bad ass in their espionage attempts.

I’ve never had an insatiable hunger to fondle my MacBook Air’s screen. I got an iPad, and she gets the job done. But some people are dying for touchscreen MacBooks because of some weird delusions that having a keyboard attached to their device at all times is an absolute necessity – nevermind that voice-dictation will be the input method of the future. This MacBook Touch concept video/commercial attempts to envision what a touchscreen MacBook Air would look like. I think it’s crazy in the “damn-that’s-so-silly-ugly-it’s-neva-gonna-happen” sense, but you might think it’s crazy in the “cool” sense.

AirPlay speaker systems are finally hitting the market in droves, but most of the ones we’ve come across cost more than a new iPad. As much as I love lusting over the devilishly good looks of higher end speaker systems, I don’t like forking over a ton of cash for a speakers even if they do come with AirPlay support. iHome’s iW1 sets out to become the wireless airplay system for the average consumer. It looks good. Plays pretty tunes. And at $300 it’s fairly cheap, but should you buy it?
