KYY K1302R Portable Monitor review★★★★☆
Double your workspace for well under $100 with this portable monitor.

The KYY K1302R Portable Monitor stands out from its rivals with a rotating kickstand that makes switching between landscape and portrait modes a breeze.

The LCD is 1080P, but nevertheless looks bright and clear. And its modest resolution helps make this external display very affordable.

It also appears professional thanks to a slim chassis that’s all aluminum, not plastic. And connecting it to your Mac or iPad is as easy as plugging in a USB-C cable.

I’ve used the portable monitor for weeks as part of my mobile setup. Here’s why I like it.

The lawsuit alleges that Apple unlawfully sold 93 of Eminem’s songs on the iTunes Music Store.

This marks the second time Apple finds itself on the opposite side of a courtroom from the Detroit rapper. (A previous lawsuit involved improper use of Eminem’s hit single “Lose Yourself” in an iTunes ad.)

If you want to monitor a website for changes, you can do it for free with Apple’s Safari web browser. The new Notify Me feature in iOS 27 and macOS 27 makes it easy to watch a webpage for updates — and receive an alert if and when the content is altered.

Let’s say you want to make sure you never miss an update to your favorite band’s tour schedule. Safari’s new capability lets you watch the group’s website so you don’t need to check it yourself every day. Same goes for a city council website you’re monitoring, a local group you want to keep in touch with, etc. Or you could use it to track price drops on a product you want to buy.

Don’t rely on other people to send you an email update. Here’s how to use Safari’s Notify Me feature to monitor the websites that matter to you.

Apple’s AI pendant just hit a wall. The company reportedly postponed development of the rumored wearable, betting on Apple Watch and AirPods to carry its AI ambitions instead.

The pause hints at a shift in Apple’s AI hardware. Apple Watch already handles many of the pendant’s core jobs, and other AI-powered wearables are already on the way.

AirPods 5: Better noise cancellation makes all the difference [Review] ★★★★★

By •

AirPods 5 review★★★★★
AirPods 5 offer amazingly good audio and ANC for open-ear earbuds.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

Apple made some big promises for AirPods 5, particularly when it comes to active noise cancellation. After spending time with the new earbuds, I can say the company wasn’t exaggerating. ANC is dramatically better than it was on previous open-ear AirPods, making AirPods 5 much more useful in noisy environments. Which is great, because Apple put ANC in its most affordable AirPods, too.

And that’s not the only upgrade that makes a difference. Apple also added something I’ve wanted on my AirPods for years: volume controls right on the stems. That’s reserved for the slightly pricier AirPods 5 variant, though.

I’m a long-time AirPods user, and I could argue that there are enough improvements in AirPods 5 that you might want to replace your AirPods 4. Here’s why.

Apple solders the storage chip on the M6 and M5 Pro Mac mini, making third-party storage upgrades impossible. This is a regression from the M4 Mac mini, which shipped with a removable storage module.

So, if you plan to buy a Mac mini, configure it with enough storage from the start, as future upgrades — even from third-party vendors — will not be possible.

Apple Music Hall, a new state‑of‑the‑art live music venue in London, will provide high-end experiences for audiences and performers alike. With a wild array of technology built into the 600-seat performance space, it will let musicians perform in Spatial Audio in an intimate space — and capture their shows with multicamera video and high-end audio.

“We care deeply about music, the artists who make it, and their life stories,” said Zane Lowe, Apple Music’s global creative director, in a press release Tuesday. “We’re always looking for new opportunities to connect the artists and the fans because we are fans. What better way to celebrate this relationship than a new music venue where we get to experience amazing music in an amazing space and share it with the world. Great music and memories will be made at Apple Music Hall.”

The first photos of Apple Music Hall reveal a venue that looks typically gorgeous. And Cupertino said it plans to livestream shows from Apple Music Hall so fans around the world can enjoy them.

iPhone 18 Pro Max storage speed can crawl to a near standstill when you push the 1TB model hard enough. New benchmark tests show the drive falling well below typical flagship speeds under extreme, sustained write loads.

The slowdown traces back to a storage swap Apple made to fit more gigabytes on the same chip in its most expensive models.

Apple’s new Texture and Grain camera controls are locked to iPhone 18 Pro after all

Apple just walked back a promise it apparently made accidentally: The new Texture and Grain controls in Photographic Styles aren’t coming to your old iPhone, despite what you might have read last week. Apple locked them to the iPhone 18 Pro lineup and the iPhone Duo, full stop.

The mess is of Apple’s own making. The iPhone 18 Pro announcement said the feature would come to more iPhones down the line. But Apple has now quietly rewritten that language, and it isn’t saying why.

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus also boast an A8 chip, improved iSight and FaceTime cameras, and — significantly — Apple Pay for secure mobile payments.

“Sales for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus exceeded our expectations for the launch weekend, and we couldn’t be happier,” Apple CEO Tim Cook says in a press release. “We would like to thank all of our customers for making this our best launch ever, shattering all previous sell-through records by a large margin.”

In case it slipped your mind, Apple is about to launch a pair of new Mac desktops. Speed-boosted versions of the Mac mini and Mac Studio were announced weeks ago, but they are just now about to reach customers.

That means Tuesday marks the real-world launch of two significantly upgraded macOS models, with the Mac mini getting Apple’s new M6 processor or the M5 Pro, while the Mac Studio moves to M5 Max or M5 Ultra chips.

UPDATE: The wait is over! These Macs are available now from the Apple Store and other retailers.

Both machines put a particular emphasis on AI performance, reflecting Apple’s growing push to make its desktop Macs powerful platforms for running AI models locally.

The long-rumored Apple home hub is shaping up to be the brain of your house. The smart display will reportedly expand Siri AI beyond your phone, using facial recognition to identify who it’s talking to.

The iPhone already serves as your personal AI hub. Now, Apple seems to want a second one for the whole household. And that shift could redefine how Siri handles daily life at home.
