Today I’m going to review a plastic bag. A new low, even for me? Maybe, but this is no ordinary plastic bag. It’s a bag that has beaten out pretty much every waterproof gadget case i’ve ever tested, because:
It fits almost every gadget I have
It weighs almost nothing. I can keep one in every bag I carry.
The bag is the LokSak, and it’s designed to keep your gadgets safe.
Like most of Samsung’s products, the upcoming Galaxy Alpha is already getting a lot of flack amongst Apple fans for being a ripoff of Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6.
Armed with his super-realistic 3-D render of what we believe the next iPhone will look like, our favorite Apple-obsessed conceptual modeler decided to put a render of the iPhone 6 next to a render of the Galaxy Alpha and see how similar they really were.
And how similar are they? You can judge for yourself after the jump, but in my opinion, up until now, the only thing Samsung hadn’t stolen from Apple for its Galaxy smartphones was the quality of materials used to manufacture them. Looks like even that’s not true anymore.
Tesla Model S owners will soon be able to use an iPhone or Android-powered smartphone to start their car when they’ve forgotten their keyfob. The new feature will be introduced with an update to Tesla’s in-car operating system that’s currently in beta testing ahead of its public rollout.
Most folks learn their vocabularies while growing up. Adding new words or changing the meaning of existing ones can be confusing to the human mind. Many of us pass judgment on these new words, upset about how technology is “dumbing down” the language.
This type of linguistic change — and the inevitable backlash to it — is nothing new, says Roy Mitchell, assistant professor of anthropology at University of Alaska Anchorage. “All living languages are always changing,” he told Cult of Mac over the phone. “Even some dead ones change,” he added, noting that Neo-Latin is simply the addition of Greek roots to a long-dead Roman lexicon.
You don’t have to like it. You just have to accept that it’s happening. And that there’s nothing you can do about it.
Preacher, based on the ultra-violent and incredibly profane comic book series from Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon at Vertigo, is a not-so-safe bet. That’s why we’re super-glad that AMC (The Walking Dead) has picked up this amazing look at American culture and its obsession with big guns, Christianity and hyper-masculinity, all filtered through a Texas setting. The show reportedly will debut in 2015.
Dong Nguyen took a leave of absence after he discovered that his hit game, Flappy Bird, was ruining peoples’ lives with its addictiveness. Now he’s back with with what looks to be an equally addictive and even more difficult game, Swing Copters.
Parallels, one of the most popular virtual machine programs out there, has a brand new version out for the Mac. Parallels 10 brings a number of noticeable performance improvements, new features for IT pros, and the ability to use OS X Yosemite features in Windows.
A shell for the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 has reportedly leaked right out of the Asian supply chain, and it has been compared with one of the 4.7-inch iPhone parts that have been making the rounds.
The larger 5.5-inch shell looks very similar to its smaller counterpart, as expected. The design features the same antenna lines and embedded Apple logo casing seen in previous iPhone 6 leaks.
The Rumor: The iPad Air 2 will come with a new anti-reflection coating.
The Verdict: Too early to tell. Production is ramping up on the next gen iPads, and while Apple could use some whiz bang features to boost sales, making it slightly easier to read the iPad outdoors probably isn’t going to be enough on its own. Limited supplies might be available at launch, but with the 2014 holiday season zooming around the corner, you can bet Apple’s going to pump out enough reader-friendly iPads to make add a few more billion to its cash piles.
Apple’s annual refresh of the iPad lineup is less than two months away, but for those who don’t mind getting last year’s model, Best Buy is slashing $75 off the price of all iPad Air models, but sale will only last for 24-hours.
Details of the iPhone 6 have been leaking like a broken water balloon the past few weeks, but while details on the upcoming iPad Air 2 have been scarce, a new report claims Apple plans to increase the next-generation iPad Air’s performance with a big RAM upgrade.
Supply chain sources from China have told TechNews in Taiwan that Apple will double the amount of RAM in the iPad Air 2 to 2GB, but the iPad mini with Retina display will continue to pack only 1GB of RAM.
While you’re snapping a pic of your lunch to share over Instagram, protesters in Ferguson, Missouri, are using the same app to upload videos of journalists getting arrested.
Social media has been credited with lighting a fire under the story of the shooting of unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown in this St. Louis suburb. The news of roiling protests reached the Gaza strip, where people there hit Twitter sharing tips on what to do when you’ve been tear gassed.

Apple still hasn’t opened an official store in the Middle East, but its about to make a huge retail splash by building its largest store ever amid the futuristic skyscrapers of Dubai.
Job listings posted to Apple’s career’s site last week indicated that Apple is interested in pursuing retail operations inside the UAE, but according to EdgarDaily, the company isn’t looking to build just a regular store in Dubai.
Apple’s iTunes store has increasingly become the place where today’s top blockbusters make their home debut, premiering on your iPhone, Mac, or Apple TV as much as a week before their DVD releases.
But with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Apple is getting one of its biggest jumps on the competition yet. The comic book political thriller is debuting on the iTunes Store three whole weeks before its Blu-Ray or DVD debut.

A photo editor friend of mine will often say, “It’s getting harder and harder to make a bad picture.”
It sounds absurd but he is partially referring to technology and how it can remove some of the thinking from photography. Cameras can be set to figure out aperture, shutter speed and, with the touch of a button, do the focusing. You can massage a bad exposure with software or, if you snap photos with your phone, choose apps and filters to effect a variety of looks and feels.
So it’s not uncommon for serious photographers to occasionally reach back for a piece of analog gear to challenge their thinking and reinvigorate creativity.
This summer I reached back to 1840. Well, sort of.

Tired of just tapping your way through The Simpsons mobile game, creating your own private Springfield, waiting for your energy donuts to replenish?
It appears that publisher Electronic Arts has heard your “Doh!” and has added a new bit of gameplay to The Simpsons: Tapped Out that is not-so-sneakily just like that of hit free-to-play game Clash of Clans.
AAPL shares have finally completed the long climb back to 2012 levels today, closing at an all-time high of $100.53 per share.
The stock’s 1.4 percent rise today was aided by bullish reports from both RBC and Morgan Stanley claiming Apple’s Fall lineup is going to be more extraordinary than ever this year as Apple puts the final preparations on the iPhone 6.
Despite a planned October unveiling, Apple may still not release the iWatch until next year. That’s the latest from Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, an unusually reliable Apple analyst.
Re/code reported two months ago that Apple’s first “foray into wearable devices” was planned for October. Kuo, on the other hand, has repeatedly thrown shade on the idea of a 2014 iWatch launch. Citing production difficulties this time, he still seems unsure.
At this point we’ve seen pretty much every nook and cranny of the 4.7-inch iPhone 6, but a new leak gives us the best look at the device yet.
Luxury accessory maker Feld & Volk has shared images of what appears to be an assembled front panel and rear shell for the iPhone 6. While plenty of these parts have already leaked independently, this is the first time we’ve seen them together.
