Experts urge iPhone users to install iOS 26.2 as soon as possible, warning that the update includes important security patches designed to protect devices from newly identified threats.
New iOS versions usually patch security vulnerabilities, but the need is unusually urgent this time because Apple says hackers are already exploiting the security holes patched in iOS 26.2.
iOS 26.2 delivers urgent security fixes your iPhone needs now
iPhone updates bring more than new features: they’re also how Apple distributes security patches. Those who refuse to update the operating system on their iPhone, Mac or iPad leave the computer open to hackers. That’s especially true for iOS 26.2.
The latest iPhone software update patches a couple of dozen security holes in areas ranging from the App Store to the Photos app, but most of these are not especially problematic. However, a pair of them are critical.
“iOS 26.2 is a priority security update. Apple has confirmed two WebKit vulnerabilities may already have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated, targeted attack against individuals on versions of iOS prior to iOS 26,” said Adam Boynton, senior security strategy manager at Jamf, a maker of Apple device management software. “As WebKit underpins Safari and the in-app browsers used across iOS, these issues can be triggered simply by processing maliciously crafted web content.”
Apple indicates the same security patches are included in iPadOS 26.2 as well as macOS Tahoe 26.2. They are just as necessary on those computers.
As Boynton says, “The practical advice is simple: update your devices now.”
