iPhone 17 Pro models might sport huge camera humps

iPhone 17 Pro rumors
That’s a sizable camera hump, no doubt about it.

A CAD drawing purportedly showing the entire iPhone 17 line leaked out Sunday, possibly giving the world its best look yet at Apple’s entire 2025 handset lineup. The standout in the image is the super-size camera humps on the two iPhone 17 Pro models.

If the drawings prove accurate, the iPhone 17 will receive less of a design change. The rumored iPhone 17 Air also puts in an appearance in the leaked drawing.

And if you’re wondering how to get better camera quality on iPhone, the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro’s video upgrades could redefine mobile photography and potentially make traditional cameras obsolete. Read more here.

iPhone 17 Pro’ s huge camera hump appears in leaked CAD drawing

The iPhone 17 Air dominates the rumors about Apple’s upcoming models. Its super-slim design and wide camera hump put in an appearance in multiple leaks in recent weeks. But Apple will release three other handsets in September: a “basic” iPhone 17 as well as Pro and Pro Max variants.

All four models appear in an image posted on social media Sunday by the tipster who goes by Majin Bu.

If the CAD drawing turns out to be on the money, Apple intends to significantly expand the camera hump on the iPhone 17 Pro models. Rather than simply surrounding the phone’s three camera lenses, the hump supposedly will extend across the width of the handset. Because the lenses will stay in the same configuration as the iPhone 16 Pro models, the hump will occupy about a quarter of the back of the devices. If you’re interested in learning more about the Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max, check out this in-depth coverage.

This apparently will free up additional room inside the handsets. This could enable significant improvements to the video recording capabilities of the two iPhone 17 Pro models.

Apple also might ditch the Pro models’ titanium edges for aluminum. Parts of the back are rendered in the CAD drawings in two different colors because supposedly part of the back panel will be aluminum, but the rest will be glass.

Staying the course

The CAD drawing of the basic iPhone 17 looks nearly identical to the back of the iPhone 16. No giant camera hump here.

There’s no sign of an iPhone 17 Plus. That’s not surprising, as it’s reportedly been dropped in favor of the slim new iPhone 17 Air.

All four iOS 19 handsets should reach customers in the autumn… almost certainly September. Despite the gap in time, experience shows it would be a mistake to dismiss early rumors about the iPhone 17 Pro design. In the past, similar leaks generally proved correct. For example, very accurate renders of the iPhone 15 Pro became available six months before the launch. And we first heard Apple would bump up the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max screen sizes more than a year early. That certainly doesn’t guarantee that the latest renders of Apple’s future premier model are correct — mistakes happen — but they can’t be ignored, either.
