Apple will reportedly heavily focus on improving the iPhone 17 Pro’s video recording capabilities. The company supposedly wants video creators and vloggers to replace their current dedicated cameras with an iPhone.
To achieve this, Apple is set to introduce significant enhancements to the iPhone 17 Pro’s video recording capabilities.
iPhone 17 Pro to focus on enhancing video quality
In recent years, Apple has focused on boosting the picture quality of its iPhones. For this, it used sensors with wider aperture and added a new 5x sensor for enhanced long-range zoom pictures. Video quality also improved, but there have not been any significant changes.
Apple will seemingly change this with the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro lineup. Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, in his latest Power On newsletter, claims the iPhone 17 Pro “will be a significant upgrade.” Apple is focusing on improving the video recording prowess of the phone, though he did not elaborate on the enhancements.
The company’s main goal with these upgrades is to make video creators and vloggers ditch their existing dedicated camera setups and switch to an iPhone instead.
Upgraded camera sensors could help with video quality
While not mentioned, an upgraded 24MP front selfie camera on the iPhone 17 Pro lineup will likely play a big role. Apple has not improved the front camera on its iPhones in a few years. A higher resolution sensor should lead to a noticeable increase in sharpness and image quality, especially in low-light scenarios.
For the rear cameras, rumors indicate Apple will switch to a 48MP 5x telephoto shooter, up from the current 12MP sensor. The other cameras will likely only get minor upgrades.
Apple may also introduce support for video recording at resolutions beyond 4K. While flagship Android phones already offer 8K recording, iPhones, despite featuring a faster chip and ISP, remain capped at 4K at 60fps.
