Apple released iOS 26.6.2, a small iPhone update that fixes a problem with downloading software updates over a cellular connection.

The update arrived Tuesday, just days before Apple is expected to release iOS 27. There’s also an iPad version: iPadOS 26.6.2

iOS 26.6.2: a small but timely fix

Apple’s release notes for iOS 26.6.2 and the iPad equivalent are unusually brief. The company says the update “fixes an issue that prevents downloading a software update over a cellular connection.”

That might sound like a minor annoyance, but the timing makes the fix particularly useful. iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 are expected to arrive soon, and Apple doesn’t want iPhone and iPad owners discovering that they can’t download the major new operating system because their device is connected to a cellular network rather than Wi-Fi.

No new features to get excited about

Don’t expect this patch to change the way your iPhone or iPad looks or add any major new capabilities. This is a maintenance release focused on fixing the cellular software-update problem.

Apple’s security releases page also says that neither iOS 26.6.2 nor iPadOS 26.6.2 include published CVE entries, so there don’t appear to be any newly documented security fixes in this release.

The update is available for the iPhone 11 and newer, along with a range of recent iPad models.

Update to iOS 26.6.2 and iPadOS 26.6.2 now

iOS 26.6.2 is available now. To install it directly onto your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Software Update. The same holds true for iPad users.
