We get laughs from embarrassing moments and physical comedy, but also have our heartstrings plucked a bit as the two lovable losers struggle with life.

3 reasons to watch Stick on Apple TV+ (and not as a Ted Lasso clone)

Apple TV+ Stick review: 3 reasons to watch
"Stick" is the nickname pro golfers give the greats -- sometimes before they flame out, like Owen Wilson's character.
Photo: Apple TV+

Popular Apple TV+ sports comedy Stick just completed its first season and got its green light for season two. So while comparisons to feel-good soccer phenom Ted Lasso seem inevitable, this Owen Wilson-led golf series carves out its own distinctive identity.

Rather than trying to replicate the wholesome optimism and wildly unbelievable story that made Ted Lasso a cultural phenomenon, Stick takes viewers slightly further into somewhat darker territory and into a slightly more believable story with suburban grift, sardonic humor and complex characters navigating grief and redemption.

Hey, I said somewhat darker, slightly further and slightly more believable, OK?

In a nutshell, Stick, like Lasso, is danged wholesome and all about redemption. And both series are feel-good shows people want to watch right now, given the societal circumstances. But for my Apple TV+ Stick review, here are three compelling reasons why Stick deserves your attention, regardless of how you feel about its more famous predecessor.

Ted Lasso season 4
No more wishful thinking -- with filming begun, fans have concrete reason to believe in a fourth season.

Filming began on the highly anticipated fourth season of Apple TV+’s beloved comedy series Ted Lasso, marking the show’s return after speculation about its future, according to new reports. The production sees Jason Sudeikis reprising his Emmy-winning role as the optimistic American football coach turned soccer manager, alongside several original cast members and exciting new additions.

Apple TV+ renews acclaimed spy series Slow Horses for seventh season

Slow Horses season 7
Spy drama Slow Horses will see a seventh season on Apple TV+.
Photo: Apple TV+

Even with seasons five and six yet to stream, here comes Slow Horses season 7! Apple TV+ officially greenlit a seventh season of its hit spy drama “Slow Horses” Tuesday. So the adventures of dysfunctional British MI5 intelligence team continue. The announcement comes as the Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning series continues to garner critical acclaim and build a devoted fanbase.

Slow Horses has won fans all over the world with its unique mix of self-deprecating British humor and high-octane action,” said Jay Hunt, creative director, Europe, Apple TV+. “I’m delighted viewers will have another season to enjoy Gary’s magnificent performance as Jackson Lamb alongside the Slow Horses’ slightly inept spycraft.”

New ending makes Mythic Quest‘s final cliffhanger disappear

By

Apple TV+ canceled Mythic Quest
Charlotte Nicdao and Rob McElhenney starred in Mythic Quest. While Apple TV+ canceled the show, season four will get a new ending.
Photo: Apple TV+

In a shock to dedicated fans, Apple TV+ canceled Mythic Quest after the show’s fourth season. The gaming-oriented workplace comedy concluded March 26 with an intended season finale, not a series finale. So Apple greenlit a redo of the last episode’s cliffhanger ending so it will actually end the whole show. Now it’s out.

Update: Attention, bereft Mythic Quest fans: The new season four ending is now streaming with a revamped episode 10, “Heaven and Hell.” It officially ends the show, typing up some loose ends and removing some cliffhangers. Reshooting a series ending is a rare thing in TV, so at least you have some closure. And if you haven’t checked out the spinoff anthology series Side Quest, there’s that, too.

3 reasons to watch The Studio on Apple TV+

The Studio review
Seth Rogen co-created, writes and stars in "The Studio" on Apple TV+
Photo: Apple TV+

Apple TV+ comedy The Studio brings a biting perspective to the entertainment industry, pulling back the curtain on Hollywood’s most absurd realities. The series, starring Seth Rogen, takes viewers deep into the chaotic world of a legacy movie studio struggling to survive in modern-day Hollywood, which is decidedly different from classic Tinseltown. So this The Studio review says green-light this one for your watchlist.

Unlike showbiz satires before it, The Studio focuses tightly on the clash between artistic vision and evolving corporate demands in a streaming-media world. And where else are you going to see Martin Scorsese weep and Ron Howard go ballistic? See three reasons to watch it below.

Side Quest looks like non-mythical sideshow [Now streaming]

Side Quest trailer
Rob McElhenney and Derek Waters in Side Quest, premiering March 26 alongside the Mythic Quest finale.
Photo: Apple TV+

Like many viewers, I’m a big fan of hit Apple TV+ gaming office comedy Mythic Quest (especially the first couple of seasons). But the trailer for limited-series spinoff Side Quest, below, doesn’t exactly look like the stuff of myth. It doesn’t exactly fill me with breathless anticipation. But now the show is out, so you can judge for yourself.

The entire four-episode anthology series debuts on March 26, alongside Mythic Quest‘s season four finale. Hard to tell from a trailer, but it might amount to bonus points for super-fans of the main show who are sad to see it go at the end of a season.

Update: As of Wednesday, Side Quest now streams on Apple TV+. Reviews so far sound positive, though not ecstatic. The Hollywood Reporter called the limited anthology series “a pleasant but aimless ramble through the Mythic Quest universe,” for example.

Critics love star-studded comedy series The Studio [Now streaming]

The Studio with Seth Rogen
Rogen plays a Hollywood studio head, new in the job but already beleaguered.
Photo: Apple TV+

Comedy actor Seth Rogen shoulders a lot with new Apple TV+ comedy series The Studio, as he writes, directs, executive produces and stars in it as an embattled Hollywood studio head, according to two trailers the streamer dropped for the show, now streaming. Will Rogen’s series fare better than the show’s fictional “Continental Studios?” Well, as you can see in the trailers, he has a star-studded cast to work with, including himself, Catherine O’Hara, Kathryn Hahn and guest star Bryan Cranston.

The 10-episode, half-hour comedy series premieres on Apple TV+ March 26, 2025. Watch the promising trailers below.

Update: We added the official trailer for The Studio under the teaser trailer, below. The new comedy series started streaming Wednesday on Apple TV+. Loaded with stars in guest cameos, the spoof of Hollywood filmmaking gets good reviews. AP News calls it “the defining portrait of modern Hollywood.” Other reviews throw around descriptions like “superb,” “spot-on, star-studded takedown” and “hilarious.” Apple TV+ press tends to stamp every show as “highly anticipated,” but this one actually was, and it sound justified in this case. It sounds like a must-see.

Apple finally confirms Ted Lasso season 4 as Sudeikis rejoins cast

Sudeikis returns for Ted Lasso season 4
The coach himself signed on to return, but what will be the focus? Recent rumors say it will be on AFC Richmond's women's squad.
Photo: Apple TV+

In a move that will delight fans worldwide, Apple TV+ officially ordered a fourth season of its Emmy-winning soccer-comedy sensation Ted Lasso, according to a new report Friday. The announcement comes after more than a year of speculation following the third season’s conclusion in May 2023. It appears to hinge on a pivotal confirmation: Jason Sudeikis returns for Ted Lasso season 4. He signed on to reprise his role as the beloved, optimistic, heavily mustachioed and highly unlikely Premier League soccer coach.

Ted Lasso has been nothing short of a juggernaut, inspiring a passionate fanbase all over the world, and delivering endless joy and laughter, all while spreading kindness, compassion and unwavering belief,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+. “Everyone at Apple is thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Jason and the brilliant creative minds behind this show.”

Surprise! Delayed Ted Lasso season 4 shifts focus to women’s soccer team.

By

Ted Lasso season 4 shift
Juno Temple, left, and Hannah Waddingham could be back in season 4, which will apparently shift the focus to the AFC Richmond women's squad.
Photo: Apple TV+

So we know beloved hit Apple TV+ comedy series Ted Lasso will return for a fourth season. Though sources now say its production start will hit a delay of a few months. But perhaps more interesting than that: When it comes together, it will center on the formation of the AFC Richmond women’s soccer team. That departure from the show’s previous focus on the men’s squad is a major Ted Lasso season 4 shift.

Rumors have noted Coach Lasso himself (Jason Sudeikis) may be less involved this season, if at all. Maybe that’s reflected in the plot pivot. The fictional Premier League team AFC Richmond tapped a low-level American college football coach to manage the club — a ludicrously unrealistic premise, yet a charming and funny show — but for the new women’s squad he’ll merely consult, perhaps, and maybe only by SMS.

Mythic Quest goes to heaven in season 4 [Now streaming!]

sneak peak at Mythic Quest season 4
If you're excited for the new season, you can take a sneak peak at Mythic Quest season 4 now.
Photo: Apple TV+

Popular Apple TV+ gaming comedy Mythic Quest may be going to heaven — and we don’t mean cancellation. The game at the show’s core may adopt the concept of heaven, accessible only by a valiant death. The show finally returns with season four on Wednesday. And the streamer offered a sneak peek at the first four+ minutes Monday, following its recent official trailer. You can watch both below.

Update: The first two episodes of season four of Mythic Quest now stream on Apple TV+. One review called it “as delightful and dysfunctional as ever.”

Here’s your chance to see comedy star Rob McElhenney buck naked (if you’re into that sort of thing). He appears that way in a frenzied new season 4 trailer for workplace comedy Mythic Quest, below. The quick-cutting trailer should get fans of the comedy, set at a California gaming company, pretty excited. And not just for the nudity. Season 4, which looks like it’s full of laughs, debuts soon — January 29.

And don’t forget: The hit comedy spawned a spinoff, Side Quest, which premieres in late March.

Bad Sisters season 2 trailer
Darkly funny thriller series Bad Sisters returns November 13!
Photo: Apple TV+

Bad Sisters season two sees the Garvey women scrambling in the aftermath of the darkly funny thriller’s first season, a new trailer Apple TV+ dropped Tuesday shows. Will they get away with the “accidental death”? Or will they break ranks and trip up as the law and nosey strangers close in?

Season two of the popular and acclaimed series debuts on Apple TV+ November 13. Watch out for season one spoilers below, by the way, in case you haven’t streamed it yet (and you really should).

Update: The first pair of episodes of Bad Sisters season two premiered Wednesday.  It’s two years after J.P.’s death, and it might be time for what the Garvey women did in season one to catch up to them.

Where’s Wanda? might be funnier in German [Updated: Now streaming]

Apple TV+ trailer for German comedy Where's Wanda
The trailer is dubbed in English, but the series is supposed to air in German (with subtitles of your choice).
Photo: Apple TV+

There’s an old stereotype that Germans aren’t funny (because they’re so orderly, strict and serious, supposedly). But with a new trailer for German-language dark comedy Where’s Wanda?, Apple TV+ seems to want to prove that stereotype wrong once and for all, American sitcom-style.

But is it funny? Sort of. It’s also just odd because the trailer is dubbed in English. The show is supposed to be in German. And that may feel more natural and less like an imitation of an American sitcom than the trailer does. But most American viewers will need subtitles for the show itself. So get ready for that when the eight-episode series debuts October 2 on Apple TV+. It might actually be funnier in its mother tongue, even with subtitles.

UPDATE: While the trailer was dubbed in English, you have language options when you watch the show, streaming on Apple TV+ as of Wednesday. We figured this would be the case. You can watch it in German, German with English subtitles (recommended) or dubbed in English (or in other languages, like Spanish). Jetzt ansehen!

Ted Lasso creator spanks Bad Monkey in new comedy [Now streaming on Apple TV+]

Bad Monkey trailer
Vince Vaughn stars in the new Apple TV+ comedy series "Bad Monkey."
Photo: Apple TV+

Curiously, a furry primate only shows up in glimpses in Wednesday’s new trailer for Bill Lawrence’s new Apple TV+ comedy series Bad Monkey. Not counting glib ex-detective Vince Vaughn, that is. Lawrence brought us vaunted comedy smash hit Ted Lasso, by the way.

The show, based on Carl Hiaasen’s New York Times-bestselling novel, debuts on Apple TV+ on August 14.

UPDATE: The new 10-episode comedy series Bad Monkey from Ted Lasso creator Bill Lawrence is now streaming on Apple TV+ as of Wednesday. Vince Vaughn stars as a disgraced Miami detective who might get his job back if he can just transport a severed arm from point A to point B, and maybe prove murder along the way. Reviews so far seem to like Vaughn in the wise-cracking role, with a few caveats. Time‘s review headline: “Bad Monkey Is a Beachy Crime Drama Drowning in Ted Lasso Quirk.” You can watch and decide if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

Where’s Wanda? Dark techie comedy from Germany gets Apple TV+ air date.

Where's Wanda debuts October 2 on Apple TV+
Look for dark comedy series "Where's Wanda?" October 2. And make sure the subtitles are on, because it's in German.

The first German-language series to air on Apple TV+, a tech-centric dark comedy called Where’s Wanda?, will debut October 2, the streamer said Thursday. So we have an air date, an image (above) and a description (below). Soon enough, a trailer should follow for what looks like it might be a pretty compelling show.

This follows news of the second German-language show coming to Apple TV+, hospital drama KRANK Berlin, starring Haley Louise Jones. Still in production, it has no air date yet.

Trying season 4 trailer
The season 4 trailer for comedy "Trying" is out. The kids are getting older.
Photo: Apple TV+

Apple TV+ heralded the birth of a new season of popular family comedy Trying with a season 4 trailer Tuesday. It charmingly shows everyone getting older as the London family faces life’s little problems, including those adopted kids. After all, six years have passed in the story since season three’s action. They’re “older not wiser,” according to the show’s tagline.

The trailer is not exactly uncontrollably laughing-out-loud funny. But, like the show, its moments of wry humor will draw smiles and a chuckle or two. The fourth season debuts May 22 on Apple TV+.

Apple TV+ greenlights season 5 of popular spy thriller Slow Horses

"Slow Horses" on Apple TV+ will air a fifth season.
Photo: Apple

The darkly comedic spy thriller series Slow Horses has three seasons ready to binge-watch on Apple TV+ — season 3’s finale aired last week — plus season 4 on the way and now a fifth season planned for production, the streaming service said Tuesday.

The critically acclaimed hit show starring Gary Oldman might as well keep rolling, as there are more novels in Mick Herron’s Slough House book series to base new six-episode seasons on.
