Popular Apple TV+ gaming comedy Mythic Quest may be going to heaven — and we don’t mean cancellation. The game at the show’s core may adopt the concept of heaven, accessible only by a valiant death. The show finally returns with season four on Wednesday. And the streamer offered a sneak peek at the first four+ minutes Monday, following its recent official trailer. You can watch both below.
Update: The first two episodes of season four of Mythic Quest now stream on Apple TV+. One review called it “as delightful and dysfunctional as ever.”
Mythic Quest sneak peak offers a look at the first 4+ minutes of season 4
The sneak peak at the upcoming season of Mythic Quest, which you can watch below along with the season’s official trailer, first appeared on IGN‘s YouTube channel. Viewers first found themselves addicted to the show, set at California gaming company that makes a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), after it debuted in early 2020 (including Cult of Mac‘s reviewer).
The people who made the game and struggle to keep it going and growing include founder Ian Grimm (Rob McElhenney), chief coder Poppi Li (Charlotte Nicdao), rising product manager over his head David Brittlesbee (David Hornsby) and others. They’re a funny bunch played by some great comedy actors. And the show became a big enough hit that it spun off another show called Side Quest. It debuts on Apple TV+ March 26.

But now you can watch the beginning Mythic Quest season four early. In the clip, David tries too hard to fire up the troops over the company’s future, earning mostly half-hearted claps and sidelong glances, as well as a few laughs at the humiliation humor. And then he announces the return of the co-creative directors, Ian and Poppi. But after his grand announcement, they don’t appear on cue. As he frantically looks in the office for them, they suddenly descend from a skylight above bathed in otherworldly light and bearing swords and the costumes of ancient, godlike Greek warriors. Everyone is agog at this, naturally.
Elysium rising
But instead of showing them greet their subjects, the show pivots. Ian wakes up, delighted by his dream. He rushes to explain his apparent epiphany to Poppi, hammering on her apartment door at 2 a.m. In the conversation that follows, they remind us of their character traits — he’s the big-idea guy with no boundaries, she’s the brilliant coder always reigning in and then surpassing his expectations. His idea is to introduce “heaven” to Mythic Quest, perhaps calling it Elysium. And with that would come the reality that a player can only get there through a valiant death.
At first she’s appalled at the idea of having to code “courage” into the game, but it becomes clear that it’s just the sort of challenge she loves. And it also becomes clear why she was so annoyed with Ian’s appearance. Poppi, uber-introverted nerd girl, has taken a lover. And, after she shuts the door on Ian, she swats the stud’s ass and orders him to get back in the bedroom. He’s more than happy to oblige.
