rdio-for-iphone

Before Apple is able to officially unveil its free new iTunes Radio feature, popular music-streaming service Rdio has revealed that it has struck a deal with Cumulus Media and plans to bring a free version of its service to the market.

The new deal will give Rdio users access to Cumulus’ 525 radio stations which will strip out localized traffic and weather details as well as be used to create playlists and other programs based on the stations and their syndicated shows, explains the New York Times:

Apple To Host iPad Event On October 15th? [Rumor]

By

iPad-Retina-Screen

Some Apple fans were holding on to hope that Cupertino would unleash new iPads on the world at last week’s keynote, but even though the keynote came and went without so much as a glimpse of a new iPad, we might only have to wait a month until the next Apple event.

According to the French Apple-blog MacGeneration, Apple will host an event on October 15th to present the new iPad. While the site has got some rumors right, it’s also missed the mark on quite a few – including when they claimed new Mac Pros would be launch in Spring 2013 – so don’t put too much hope in this rumor just yet.

Scott Forstall & iOS 6 Morph Into Jony Ive & His iOS 7 Masterpiece [GIF]

By

scotandjony

In just a few short days, everyone’s iPhone is going to look a hell of a lot different now that Scott Forstall’s felt and wood grain reign is coming to an end. To celebrate rise of Sir Jony Ive’s flat and parallax world, GadgetLove created one of the most incredible iOS 6 vs iOS 7 comparison GIFs we’ve ever seen. The best part is staring at Forstall’s shrinking smile as Jony’s designer scowl quickly morphs in and out.

By

infinityblade3

We got a glimpse of the incredible graphics and gameplay of Chair’s upcoming Infinity Blade III during the Apple’s keynote on Tueday, but Chair released a cinematic trailer for the new game this morning that dives into the Infinity Blade mythology of the first two games before setting up the narrative of the final chapter of Infinity Blade.

Unlike Infinity Blade: Dungeons – which was eventually canned after fans were left waiting over a year for the release – Infinity Blade III is ready to go and will launch in the App Store on September 18th for $6.99.  The game features seven huge new worlds, fire-breathing dragons, and enough swordplay to keep you entertained for weeks.

iPhone 5s Online Ordering To Begin Friday, September 20th At 12:01AM PDT

By

iPhone5spreorder

The iPhone 5c pre-orders went off this morning without a hitch and supply for days, but Apple has decided not to offer pre-orders on the high-end iPhone 5s. Customers looking to grab Apple’s newest smartphone as quickly as possible will be pleased to know that you can wake up at 12:01AM PDT next Friday, buy your iPhone 5s, and get back to bed without suffering through the Apple Store launch lines.

Apple sent customers an email this morning announcing the iPhone 5s will be available to order from the Apple Online Store starting at 12:01AM PDT on September 20th. The lack of pre-orders probably means everyone’s going to slam Apple’s servers at midnight, and who knows how long initial supply will last. But if you miss out, you can always go to your nearby Apple Retail Store which will open a couple hours early at 8AM on the 20th to take your money.

Microsoft Takes Aim At The iPhone 5c With Its Own Bad Parody Video [Update]

By

Screen Shot 2013-09-13 at 4.29.37 PM

Update: Microsoft got the message that the video sucks, and it has been pulled.

The Apple parody video fad has been a bit played out the past couple years, but Microsoft thinks its got the comedic chops to take on the iPhone 5c and convince you to switch over to its struggling line of Windows Phones. The company’s WindowsPhone channel on YouTube just released a parody video depicting two stumped iPhone designers who just sit around a conference room table tossing out different color ideas to a pensive Tim Cook.

You would think a multi-billion dollar company like Microsoft could afford some better video production, or at least have the cash to hire a decent writer, but instead we’re left with leprechaun jokes and a plastic fork.

Want an iPhone 5c parody video that’s actually funny? Our pal John Elerick and his crew of Apple bashers are back this year with two banned iPhone promo videos for the iPhone 5c and 5s. Get your laughs in after the jump:

How To Pre-Order The iPhone 5c At Midnight Tonight The Right Way [Guide]

By

iphone5c

Apple isn’t allowing pre-orders on the iPhone 5s this year, but if all you want is the colorful new iPhone 5c, Sprint and Verizon have already confirmed pre-orders will begin by 12AM exactly… the same time iPhone 5 preorders started last year.

The iPhone 5c is likely to be one of Apple’s most wildly in-demand phones ever, thanks to its cheaper price and variety of colors, and while Apple is attempting to balance the crush on their website by starting pre-orders in the middle of the night, it will, in all likelihood, still be a madhouse when Apple starts selling iPhones later tonight.

Hence this guide. We’re going to walk you through the the most efficient ways to absolutely ensure you get your iPhone 5c pre-ordered at the stroke of midnight so you can get back to sleep and enjoy your device on Friday.

Apple is well known for its gorgeous retail stores that draw impressive crowds on launch days, but the actual work that goes into the construction of each Apple Mecca is pretty impressive in its own right. An internal Apple video has been published on YouTube highlighting all the details that went into the construction of Apple’s pop-up store at SXSW for the launch of the the iPad 2.

Jimmy Kimmel has been well known to make fun of an Apple fanboy or two, so when Apple announced the new iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s yesterday, the late-night TV show host hit the streets to get people’s reactions to the new Apple device. The catch: the pedestrians were handed an iPad mini but were told it’s the new iPhone. Of course they bought it, hook, line, and sinker, and the results were hilarious as ever.

AT&T has decided that it wants to make its 4G LTE service available to over 270 million Americans by the end of 2013, but with limited wireless spectrum available in the areas it needs to improve, the company has decided to strike a deal with its archenemy Verizon.

To expand its coverage AT&T has purchased $1.9 billion worth of Verizon’s lower 700MHz band B block wireless spectrum. The extra wireless spectrum will give AT&T access to cover 42 million people in 18 states.

Apple Removes iCloud Keychain From iOS 7 GM

By

icloudkeychain

Apple seeded the iOS 7 GM to developers yesterday, and while it didn’t have any major new features – unless you cream your pants at the mention of new wallpapers and ringtones – Apple actually removed one of iOS 7’s most anticipated features from the beta: iCloud Keychain.

One of the few surprise announcements from yesterday’s keynote was that iOS 7 will come with a completely new set of ringtones and alert tones. That’s right, Marimba is finally in exile after annoying the living shit out of us for six long years.

The new ringtones and alert tones were included in the latest iOS 7 GM that was seeded to developers yesterday afternoon, and while Marimba and its old ringtone buddies are still available under the “Classics” options in iOS 7, the new ringtones and alert tones seem to fit better with the new iOS aesthetics.

You can listen to all the new ringtones in the video above, or check out the new alert tones in the video below:

Here Are All Of The Wallpapers In The iOS 7 GM [Gallery]

By

iOS7

Apple released the iOS 7 GM to developers earlier today, and while the final version doesn’t have any major new features Apple did manage to toss a ton of new still and dynamic wallpapers into iOS 7, along with a completely new set of ringtones.

iOS 7 won’t be released until September 18th, but you can get your iPhone in the mood for all of Jony Ive’s upcoming changes by downloading the new wallpapers to your iPhone right now, thanks to our buddy Dom at MacMixing. Check them out:

iPod Touch, Nano, And Shuffle Get New ‘Space Gray’ Color Option

By

spacegreyiPodnano

This morning’s keynote focused on the iPhone and iOS 7, but Apple pushed out a few quiet updates this afternoon as well, including a new color option for iPods.

Apple is now selling the iPod Nano, Touch, and Shuffle in the new Space Gray color option the iPhone 5S just received. The space gray iPod Touch won’t be available at Apple Stores until the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C arrive on September 20th, but Apple.com says you should be able to pickup the new Nano and Shuffle as soon as September 12th.

The Really Cheap iPhone Apple Should Have Introduced Today [Humor]

By

cult_logo_featured_image_missing_default1920x1080

Ok, so the iPhone 5C isn’t really as cheap as everyone was hoping for, but hey, it’s got some really cool ugly rubber cases to protect that $549 plastic iPhone. Wall Street hasn’t been too stoked about the iPhone 5c’s price either, but maybe if Apple introduced the iPhone 5F – with Snake! – that stock price would have went through the roof today.

Apple Pushes Developers To Submit iOS 7-Ready Apps Before Launch

By

iOS7gmseed

We finally have an official release date for iOS 7, which means on September 18th, everyone’s iPhone and iPad is going to change dramatically and a bunch of iOS 6 skeuomorphic apps are going to look like crap in Apple’s new flat, parallax world.

To make the transition to iOS 7 easier, Apple has sent an email out to developers reminding them to reimagine their apps’ interface to match iOS 7 and submit them before launch. Apple also published a new developer guides on how to take advantage of the iPhone 5s’ 64-bit A7 processor, M7 chip, and OpenGL ES 3 capabilities.

Apple Will Sell Its Own Lightning Docks For The iPhone 5s

By

iPhone5sdock

Apple hasn’t sold its own dock for the iPhone since introducing the Lightning connector on the iPhone 5, but it looks like the company has had a change of heart, and will start selling an iPhone 5s dock for $29 starting on September 20th at Apple retail stores.

Along with being able to charge your iPhone 5 or iPhone 5s, the new dock also has some “special audio porting” to make speakerphone calls clear while placed in the dock. An iPhone 5c dock will also be available for the same price.

Phil Schiller Says iOS App Developers Won’t Get Access To Touch ID, Yet

By

img_8961

Apple’s new home button fingerprint scanner received a ton of attention at today’s keynote thanks to its sub-epidermal skin layers, 360˚ readability,  laser cut sapphire crystal, and the fact that its going to make buying stuff with your iPhone painless as ever.

All that new tech is great and could lead to some really exciting and convienent uses for third-party apps, but after today’s keynote Phil Schiller told AllThingsD that iOS developers aren’t going to get access to Touch ID right now, if ever.

AAPL Shares Are Down Nearly 3% After iPhone 5c Announcement

By

AAPLdown

Usually after an iPhone announcement Wall Street goes crazy for AAPL stock, sending the price on the up-and-up. But after today’s announcement of the iPhone 5c and the iPhone 5s, AAPL is down nearly 3% as it’s dropped about 14.17 points.

There’s still some time left in the trading day, so the stock could rebound. While the drop isn’t catastrophic, it is a bit surprising as many viewed the iPhone 5c as Apple’s answer to satisfy Wall Street, but it appears that investors aren’t impressed with the iPhone 5c’s price point at $549 off-contract.

Are You Afraid The NSA Will Steal iPhone Fingerprint Data? [Poll]

By

cult_logo_featured_image_missing_default1920x1080

[polldaddy poll=7386159]

The iPhone 5S’s new TouchID looks incredible and will surely be handy in saving time and keeping passwords out of your mind, but should we be worried that the NSA and other organizations will steal Touch ID data for far more nefarious purposes?

Phil Schiller reassured the crowd this morning that all fingerprint data is encrypted, and secured inside a secure enclave. It’s never available to other software. It’s never uploaded to Apple’s servers or backed up to iCloud. But still, this is the NSA we’re talking about. What do you guys think? Vote in our poll and let us hear your thoughts in the comments below.

Apple isn’t doing pre-orders for the 5s, strangely enough. Pre-orders for the iPhone 5c start on Friday, September 13th, and both phones will be available in-stores on September 20th in the U.S., Canada, China, France, Australia, U.K., Japan, and Singapore.

The iPhone 4S is staying on as Apple’s free phone with 8GB of storage.
