You can now pre-order a new iPad from RadioShack with the purchase of a $50 gift card. Like Apple’s online store, pre-orders are guaranteed to deliver when the device goes on sale Friday, March 16th. As the first retailer besides Apple to offer the new iPad, RadioShack will also be offering AppleCare+ for iPad alongside Target, Apple, and carrier partners.

If you’re anything like me, now that you’ve pre-ordered your new iPad, you’ll be obsessing over its order status.  You know it’s not going to arrive until March 16, but once every hour you’ll logon to the Apple online store to see how your package is getting on anyway.

Apple dropped the price on the iPad 2 down to $400 for a brand new unit, but if you’re looking to save a little extra cash, buying a refurbished model is a great option. The Apple Store is back online, and right now Apple is selling refurbished iPad 2s for $349. Considering the iPad 2 is the second best tablet on the market (thanks to a recent demotion from the new iPad), shelling out $349 for a new iPad 2 is a sweet bargain.

Apple officials have reportedly confirmed that the company will not be taking its pop-up retail store to this year’s South by Southwest Interactive Festival, which kicks off on Friday, March 9. The decision suggests Apple’s iPad 3 will not be ready for shipping next week.

25 iPhones worth over $16,000 have been stolen from an Apple Store in Northlake Mall in Charlotte, North Carolina. Unlike the familiar attacks in which thieves smash in Apple’s trademark glass doors, the suspect in this case was an Apple store employee and had easy access to the store’s stock room.

Tourists wandering into Apple Stores in six cities around the globe found themselves in the middle of a media storm about the Cupertino company’s labor policies in China.

Members of two protests groups, who say they represent Apple customers, delivered petitions they claim are 245,000 signatures strong. Change.org and SumOfUs delivered petitions  to Apple Stores today in Washington, DC, New York, San Francisco, London, Sydney and Bangalore.

A report claims that in an effort to expand their US retail presence, Apple is in talks with Walmart subsidiary Sam’s Club to open new Apple stores inside the company’s warehouse retail locations. A long-standing issue with iMessage that causes iOS devices to still be able to send and receive messages even after a user has taken his SIM and iMessage login out of the device got renewed attention this week when the bug hit an Apple Store Genius and his iMessage history leaked out to the web.

Spurred by the latest report, Apple has broken their customary silence to address the issue. Don’t expect a fix to be forthcoming, though: instead, Cupertino is denying there’s a bug, and is instead blaming the whole debacle on the Apple Genius who failed to follow protocol. In fact, the so-called iMessage “bug” is actually incredibly easy to fix.

Having someone snoop into your private life is a horror that sends most Americans into a state of demonic rage. What’s more valuable: the White House or the Apple Store? The most iconic and easily identifiable residence in the country might seem like the safer bet, but guess again: it’s actually worth just about as much as any one single Apple store.

Apple could be set to bring its popular retail stores to India following the Indian government’s decision to allow 100% foreign direct investment (FDI) in the retail sector. The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) claims Apple is already interested in opening stores in India, with the Cupertino company reportedly in the process of finalizing its business plan.

Early on the morning of January 3rd, six armed teenagers broke into the Apple Store at Scottsdale Quarter by shattering the front glass. The crew made quick work of the store and stole between $70,000 – $80,000 worth of merchandise. The burglary occurred before business hours and fortunately no one was harmed. Spotting the thieves as they were fleeing the scene, a local cab driver followed their vehicle down the street. Noticing the trailing cab, the thieves fired two shots at the cab, but both missed and the cab driver was uninjured.

Instead of focusing on making pivotal leaps forward with hardware, Apple’s main focus of 2011 was to fortify their strong foundation in the software game.
