Apple’s original TV shows will have to abide by EU quotas

As Apple makes moves to become a provider of streaming video content, it will be among the companies bound by new EU laws, stating that companies dedicate at least 30 percent of their on-demand catalogs to local content.

Roberto Viola, head of the European Commission department which regulates this area, says that the laws are on track to be enshrined in December. “We just need the final vote, but it’s a mere formality,” he recently told trade publication Variety.

Foundation follows the fall of a galactic empire, and centers on a group of scientists trying to save civilization from chaos.

Apple is adding a highly anticipated climate change drama series to a burgeoning roster of original television content that may one day rival Netflix.

Apple reportedly fought off aggressive competition to produce a TV series based on Nathaniel Rich’s New York Times Sunday Magazine story entitled “Losing Earth: The Decade We Almost Stopped Climate Change.”

Jin Lee’s Korean epic Pachinko is headed to Apple TV

Apple’s new betas for iOS 12 are coming out like clockwork with the fifth beta build arriving this morning nearly two weeks after the last beta dropped.

Developers received iOS 12 beta 5 this morning along with new betas for tvOS 12, watchOS 5 and macOS Mojave. Each new build contains a number of fixes as Apple readies the new software for a public launch this fall.

Terry Gilliam’s fantasy film Time Bandits is set to be turned into a TV series by Apple.

The iPhone-maker is reportedly closing in on a deal that would give it the rights to make a TV series based on the 1981 movie, but Terry Gilliam won’t be attached as a writer for the series.

Verizon wants to team up with Apple or Google for 5G TV

Verizon wants to hook up with either Apple or Google to provide TV services when it launches its super fast 5G service to customers in Los Angeles and Sacramento, a new report claims.

The idea is that packaging Verizon’s 5G online TV with either Google’s YouTube TV or an as-yet-unnanounced Apple TV package would help Verizon to showcase its new service.

A director known for ER, The West Wing and Shameless episodes, and even the Deep Impact disaster movie, will go behind the camera for one of the many TV shows Apple is producing. Mimi Leder reportedly agreed to take on the upcoming program starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon.

The drama, which doesn’t yet have a name, will be set behind the scenes at a fictional morning TV show.

Apple still hasn’t revealed exactly how it plans to make its original video content available to customers.

However, a new report suggests that Apple may take a page out of Amazon’s playbook by launching a single Amazon Prime-style subscription package, compiling Apple Music, a magazine subscription service, and its original TV shows into one.
