Aviiq Freshens Its Origami-Like Portable Laptop Stand, Cuts Price

By

aviiq-portable-laptop-stand

I’ve long been a big fan of Aviiq‘s laptop stands — so much so that I almost never use my MBP without a stand under it. Why? It props the MacBook up at an angle better suited to typing, raises the screen close to eye-level, and allows for better cooling by allowing for airflow between the MacBook’s bottom and the desk.

Aviiq has just refreshed the fancier of the two models, the Portable Laptop Stand, and brought down the price considerably.

Grove SkateCase Is Lovely, But Is It Worth The Price? [Review]

SkatCase by Grove
Category: Cases
Works With: iPhone 5
Price: $150

Grove was last seen on these hallowed pages when I wrote about the SkateBack, an iPhone 5 rear panel fashioned from the offcuts of old skateboards. Now I actually have a skate-derived case in my hands. It’s still for the iPhone 5, but it’s a full case, not just a rear panel, and it comes in the same shape as Grove’s bamboo cases.

It’s pretty good. It’s also $150.

An absolutely priceless Onion News Network video, with perhaps the best headline of all time: “New Wearable Computer Also Sucks Your Dick.” Check out the video after the jump.

Ashton Kutcher’s cinema debut as Steven Paul Jobs is just six weeks away, so it’s about time to start plastering movie theater walls with JOBS posters.

A new poster for Kutcher’s movie was released today and features a colorful portrait of Ashton in the role of Steve Jobs, along with the tagline “Some see what’s possible, others change what’s possible.”

The movie arrives in theaters August 16th and also stars James Woods, Dermot Mulroney, Amanda Crew, and Josh Gad. Here’s the first official trailer:

Hacker Who Stole 114K Emails From AT&T iPad Owners Appeals Conviction

By

Andrew “Weev” Auernheimer

Andrew “Weev” Auernheimer, one of the hackers responsible for exploiting a security flaw in AT&T’s website to steal over 110,000 email addresses from iPad subscribers, has appealed the 41-month sentence that was handed to him back in March.

Auernheimer still maintains he did not violate any laws when he accessed AT&T’s servers, and notes that all of the information he obtained was already available to the public on the Internet.

EE, currently the United Kingdom’s only 4G LTE provider, has just announced that it will double its 4G speeds in 12 cities starting tomorrow, July 4. The carrier says that the average connection will increase to between 12 Mbps and 30 Mbps, which is twice the average speed of home broadband in the U.K.

EE has also announced new “pay-for-speed” plans that will allow customers to pay higher fees for faster connections from September.

Manage Your Newsstand Subscriptions In The Mac App Store With Mavericks Beta [OS X Tips]

By

OS X Mavericks Subscriptions

One of the lesser talked-about features of the upcoming OS X Mavericks system is that of Mac App Store subscriptions. In iOS, developers are able to charge users on a recurring basis, like a subscription. Magazines in Newsstand do this fairly easily, and I have several subscriptions to magazines there.

This wasn’t available to OS X apps until the release of OS X Mavericks, and you can manage your subscriptions from the Mac App Store right now if you’re running the new Mavericks beta on your Mac right now. Here’s how.

Amaziograph: Draw Spirographic Kaleidoscopic Patterns Right On Your iPad

By

8600449219_cd8d2ff4c0_b.jpg

Amaziograph really is amazio-ing. Do you remember the Spirograph, the plastic, cog-based drawing tool that lets you come up with all kinds of psychedelic geometric designs using paper and pens? Or the kaleidoscope, the favorite freakout kids toy of bong-smokers the world over?

Well, imagine that you could somehow combine the two into a smoke-free, drug-free (and more importantly, paper-free) app for the iPad. That app would be Amaziograph, a $1 drawing tool developed by 15-year-old Bulgarian high-schooler Hristo Staykov.

Snake-Like Anakonda Speakers Look More Like Speaker Cables

By

k-bigpic.jpg

If you ever walked around Las Vegas’ Strip, you’ll be familiar with its drunken-theme-park aesthetic. Every hedge and lawn is watered and trimmed to Disney-esque perfection. Every sidewalk is swept. The only difference is that the pedestrians carry three-foot-long plastic tubes of some sickly pink liquor.

And of course, there are hidden speakers everywhere. Now, those speakers could be replaced with Anakondas.

Snuglet Makes MacBook Power Hole Smaller, More Snuggerer

By

People love to moan about the slimline MagSafe 2 adapter that was launched to match the skinny (current) MacBook Air. It falls out, they say. It’s too easy to knock from its magnet-hole. I’ve never had any trouble with it. In fact, I like it more than the original because not only does it stay firmly in place, but it also snaps in properly in to begin with. I often found the old fat MagSafe would fail to engage, leaving me with a dead battery when I left the house (not that I ever actually leave the house).

Anyhow, you whiners now have something else to waste your money on: the Snuglet.

‘The Walking Dead: 400 Days’ Coming July 3rd To Mac, July 11 To iOS

By

So scary.
So scary.

One of our picks for the top games of 2012 is The Walking Dead, Telltale Games’ brilliant video game translation of the award-winning comic book and TV show.

It’s getting a sequel, of sorts, in the form of The Walking Dead: 400 Days, a transitional piece between Seasons one and two of The Walking Dead game proper.

Today, IGN reported that 400 Days is indeed headed our way, with a Mac port slated for July 3rd, with only a short wait for an iOS version on July 11.

The game itself is a 3D action brawler with gesture-based combat and cinematic cut scenes, and follows the storyline of the movie, Man Of Steel.

from YSL to AAPL, Paul Deneve was Apple's first big fashion hire of the year, but not the last

Apple just hired one of the biggest CEOs in fashion to work on some “special projects” under CEO Tim Cook. Maybe to add a touch of fashion to an upcoming iWatch?

According to a report from Bloomberg’s Adam Satariano, former Yves Saint Laurent CEO, Paul Deneve is heading to Apple to work as a new VP reporting directly to Tim Cook, but he won’t be filling Apple’s vacant seat for Head of Retail.

Apple released the following statement regarding the hire:

Snugly In Your DSLR's Hotshoe: Satechi's Smart Trigger.

Unless you like sprinting to beat your camera’s timer, as the family photog, you know often you just end up being left out of the family memories.

Smart Trigger by Satechi

The Satechi Smart Trigger can offer some help there. By connecting to your DLSR, it gives you a cartful of remote shutter controls that works wirelessly via your iPhone or iPod Touch.
