Steve Wozniak thinks the future is all about self-driving cars, but don’t expect him to be putting his money on the rumored Apple Car.
That’s because the Apple co-founder has signed a deal with Cadillac which will see him not only appear in marketing for the firm, but also offering his thoughts in a technical consulting role.
“I will be meeting with Cadillac, offering tech ideas on what belongs [in future vehicles] and what doesn’t,” Woz told a group of more than 200 people attending a recent presentation hosted by BBVA Compass Bank.
Woz may have been out of Apple for around 30 years at this point, but he’s been a close observer of the developments in high-tech cars. We’ve written previously about Woz’s myriad rides, which includes a Model X Tesla.
In his BBVA Compass Bank talk last week, Woz claimed that Cadillac would be among the first self-driving cars on the market with its upcoming Cadillac CT6, which uses GM’s Super Cruise autonomous driving feature to allow hands-off lane following, braking and speed control. Woz appeared in an ad for the vehicle at this year’s Oscars, during which he was credited as the inventor of the personal computer.
“Within 20 years, human drivers won’t be allowed except on certain roads, just for fun,” he told the audience at last week’s speaking engagement. “Accident rates will be so much lower for self-driving cars.”
He also noted that Cadillac “have new car names and models coming. They’re willing to change that company around.”
Woz didn’t have such kind words for the Apple Watch, however, describing smartwatches as a whole as being redundant. “The smartwatch is an extra thing that doesn’t help me with my life,” he said. “The phone does it all well, already.”

Of course Woz doesn’t like the Apple Watch. However, if they made a custom Outback Steak edition I’m sure he’d love it…
You know, that picture you’ve used is of a Tesla, not Cadillac.
“Woz currently drives a Tesla, although he says a Cadillac CT6 is in his future.”
One sentence amongst a sea of Cadillac. The picture is there solely because the writing staff felt they had no other picture to place. A picture of a Cadillac, the logo, or even just Wozniak would have been better in this case.

I really don’t understand all the Woz hate. Without that man, this very website wouldn’t exist.
But he has gradually become just so sad.
A Cadillac is the only car a fat high school drop out can drive and still look cool?…………………..NOT!
It’s both funny and pathetic that so many of you hate and ridicule Woz. And the fat hate comments are so juvenile. You should do some soul searching and self honesty about why you feel so negative about someone you don’t even know.
I don’t know, Cadillac might just be too far gone, but you never know.
