Apple is reportedly working to fix iPhone Air’s biggest shortcomings. The second-generation model might come with a dual-camera setup and better battery life.
iPhone Air 2 could get an ultra-wide lens
Released last year, the iPhone Air prioritizes slimness over pro hardware. The result is a delightfully lightweight device with some very obvious compromises.
If you passed on the original iPhone Air because of its substandard camera — it comes with just one wide lens, which makes it inferior to the standard iPhone 17 — the iPhone Air 2 might be worth waiting for.
Alongside the primary sensor, the iPhone Air 2 reportedly will add an ultra-wide lens. The news comes from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who wrote Wednesday that the extra camera lens will be the second-gen model’s major design change.
This falls in line with tipster Digital Chat Station’s previous claim that the next-generation iPhone Air will likely come with two cameras.
Apple is reportedly working to improve the battery life of the iPhone Air 2, internally code-named “V62.” The original iPhone Air was a tough sell for heavy users, even though some called fears of poor battery life unfounded.
However, Gurman says Apple will address those concerns with the next version. Whether the battery-life improvement for iPhone Air 2 will stem from a larger cell or efficiency gains remains unclear. But the second-gen model’s similar design suggests Apple might not have enough room to wedge a bigger battery inside.
Same A20 Pro chip as the iPhone 18 Pro
The iPhone Air 2 reportedly will pack an A20 Pro processor, the same one expected to appear in the iPhone 18 Pro series this fall. The upcoming chip is expected to improve power efficiency, which could help the iPhone Air 2’s battery last longer without increasing its thickness.
A spring 2027 launch is likely
Gurman says the iPhone Air 2 will debut alongside the standard iPhone 18 in spring 2027. This falls in line with Apple’s rumored shift toward staggering iPhone releases. Rumors indicate the Pro models will arrive this September alongside a foldable iPhone, possibly called the “iPhone Ultra.”
If Apple delivers on the secondary camera and improved battery, the iPhone Air 2 should be a promising alternative to the standard iPhone 18.
