Apple kicked off WWDC25 Monday by showing off iOS 26, iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, and macOS 26. The company’s latest operating systems debut a new unified Liquid Glass visual design and pack several other improvements. Not every iPhone, iPad, or Mac will make the cut this year, though.

These iPhones will support iOS 26

With iOS 26, Apple will stop supporting the iPhone XS and iPhone XR, which launched in 2018. All newer models released in 2019 and later will receive iOS 26 and its future updates.
The following iPhones will get iOS 26 in September this year:
- iPhone 11
- iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max
- iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini
- iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max
- iPhone SE (2nd gen)
- iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini
- iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max
- iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus
- iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max
- iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 Plus
- iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max
- iPhone 16, iPhone 16e, and iPhone 16 Plus
- iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max
Like iOS 18, iPhone 15 and older models won’t get any of the AI-powered features in iOS 26. They will also miss out on several other changes due to hardware limitations.
Every iPad that will get iPadOS 26
Apple dropped support for three old iPads with iPadOS 18. With iPadOS 26, it’s only dropping support for one device: the 7th-generation iPad.
iPadOS 26 will support the following iPads:
- iPad Air 3, M2 iPad Air, and newer
- iPad (8th generation or later)
- iPad Pro (Third-generation/A12X Bionic and later models)
- iPad mini 5 and newer
watchOS 26 compatible Apple Watch
As a leak indicated, watchOS 26 will not drop support for older Apple Watch models. Apple will support the same set of smartwatches as it did with watchOS 11 last year. Here’s the full list of watchOS 26-compatible Apple Watch models:
- Apple Watch SE (2nd gen/2020)
- Apple Watch Series 6
- Apple Watch Series 7
- Apple Watch Series 8
- Apple Watch Series 9
- Apple Watch Series 10
- Apple Watch Ultra
- Apple Watch Ultra 2
Macs that will run macOS 26 Tahoe
Apple will phase out support for several older Intel-powered Macs with macOS Tahoe. The OS will only work on Macs launched in 2019 or later.
- MacBook Air (M1 and later)
- MacBook Pro (2019 and later)
- Mac mini (M1 and newer)
- Mac Studio (all models)
- Mac Pro (2019 and newer)
- iMac (2020 and later)
The following Intel Macs will remain stuck on macOS Sequoia:
- MacBook Pro (2018 models)
- iMac Pro (2017)
- Mac mini (2018)
As before, Apple Intelligence features are only available on M1-powered or newer Macs.
The first developer beta of all the above operating systems is available starting today, with a public beta scheduled for next month. Apple will release these OSes to the public in the fall this year.
