New photos of cases reportedly designed for an upcoming 12.9-inch iPad Pro may reveal interesting tidbits about Apple’s long-rumored giant tablet.
Check out the possible details, based on photos from renowned Apple leaker Sonny Dickson, below.
If this case is legit, the iPad Pro will feature a design similar to the iPad Air, with ultra-thin casing and bezels. It is reportedly 7mm thin, which is thinner than the iPhone 6 Plus but thicker than the Air. Components such as the iSight camera and Touch ID button seem to remained in their present locations.
The case also suggests the iPad Pro could sport four speakers and two ports, with one at the bottom and one at the side. It is unknown whether these would be Lightning or USB-C ports.
It’s worth noting that — even if reports of a plus-size iPad turn out to be true — these photos should be taken with a sizable pinch of salt. Much like concept designers, third-party case manufacturers often base their information on rumors and speculation.
That’s because the cost of working up case prototypes is considerably less than the potential gains to be made if a manufacturer can hit the ground running with products available as soon as a new device launches.
However, some case manufacturers have contacts in the supply chain, and previous examples of case leaks have revealed crucial details of upcoming products.
Will any of the details revealed in these images hold water in the long run? We’ll have to wait and see, but for now it’s worth filing under “interesting speculation.”

If the side port does turn out to be true, It looks like it would be used for docking or connecting to a keyboard.
Using the port for keyboard doesn’t make sense because the flimsy connector may break when adjusting the angle. There’s a Bluetooth for it. That port may just be a USB-C for other usages.
Unless they are trying to be more “microsoft” and include a trackpad, more ports, etc. I also think it would be a terrible idea, but that is the only logic I see for having it where it is.
I think it’s likely to be for charging in a dock in landscape mode, I have an ipad dock in the kitchen and the ipad would make a great semi-permanent TV if it was the other way around.
Why is everyone against usable freaking ports. I think Microsoft finally did something right when they put a full sized USB port on their Surface. External HDs, Flash Drive, SD Card Reader, ….why wouldn’t I want access to these things!! A ton of people have these devices …..give me access to them via my tablet.

Those two words, “alleged” and “possible”, stop me from ready any further than the headline. Rumors and here-say do not good reporting make.
But you read enough to reply. ;)
Not past the headline, pal. Apparently you read more. Go for it!
