Apple fans have been disappointed that the iPad mini cost $329, while other 7-inch tablets cost significantly less. Phil Schiller defended the price saying consumers will pay for a quality product. He’s right. Apple’s going to sell a gazillion iPad minis, but the reason for it’s higher price tag might have a lot more to do with problems manufacturing the touch screen.

According to Digitimes, Apple’s $329 price tag for the iPad mini is largely due to low yield rates for the device’s GF2 (DITO film) touch screen technology.

If the Apple used a real apple and an MRI scanner to make their logo it’d probably look something like this. Brazillian physician Gabriel Camargo was at work the other day, eating an apple, when a thought popped into his brain that it’d be pretty cool to create an MRI scan of the Apple logo.

So he placed his apple in the idel MRI scanner that was nearby and the result was the image you see above. Even though the placement of the bite is a tad off, we think it looks pretty sweet.

One of my favorite things about OS X is that if the need ever arises where I absolutely have to use a Windows only application, I don’t have to borrow a friend’s PC, I can just run Windows via Bootcamp right on my Mac. It’s not something I do often, but it has happened a few times.

Parallels makes the experience even better by letting you run Windows while you’re still using OS X so you only have to taste Windows for a brief momemt. With the release of Windows 8 approaching though Parallels posted a critical and urgent advisory note today telling Mac users that they should hold off on upgrading to Windows 8 for a little while.

Each time Apple releases a shiny new device lusted after by consumers across the globe, workers at Chinese factory manufacturers pay the price more than anyone who waits in line at an Apple Store for five hours to shell out $329.

As soon as production of an Apple product goes into launch mode, Chinese factory workers get hit by a wave of chemical fumes, 12-hour work shifts, unpaid overtime, and even explosions, as they are hurried to assemble the device.

Each time Apple releases a new product, American TV show hosts rush out with their jokes about it. Conan O’Brien consistently comes out with the best Apple jokes, and he’s got another great one with this new video that uncovers the real reason why you want to buy an iPad mini.

Over 45% of iPad owners are a little upset that Apple announced the iPad 4 on Tuesday. Even though the iPad 4 is a small spec bump, the iPad 3 has only been on the market for six months, making some iPad 3 owners feel like they got screwed out of having the latest and greatest iPad.

Toluna QuickSurveys conducted a study involving 2000 iPad owners, and they discovered that  50% of iPad 4 owners are upset about the launch of the iPad 4, followed by 45% of iPad 2 owners and 40% of first-generation iPad owners being upset as well.

If you don’t have an Apple TV but want to look at all your pretty iPhone 5 pictures on your HDTV, then Apple just came out with some new Lightning adapters to help solve all your problems. For $49 you can get a Lightning to HDMI adapter, or Lightning to VGA adapter from the online Apple Store.

The new adapters ship in 2-3 weeks and would probably be pretty useful for people who are always tech their tech gear with them on business trips, but seems how the Apple TV only costs 50 bucks more to beam your content to your TV, we think it’s a better investment.

When Tim Cook jumped on stage yesterday and ran through all the little statistics about how extremely successful Apple’s been over the last few months, he put some added emphasis on the fact that Apple just sold their 100 millionth iPad.

100 million iPads in just over two years is absolutely nuts. 100 million of any product sold in two years is insane. But it turns out that analysts weren’t thrilled that Apple just sold their 100 millionth iPad two weeks ago, because it means iPad sales are starting to decline when analysts were expecting them to sell more.

The iPad mini is a great looking device and all that, but people seemed to be pretty disappointed in the price point. While other 7-inch tablets usually start out in the $200-$250 price range, the iPad mini costs $329 for the base model.

After the keynote yesterday, journalists were given an opportunity to play with the newly announced Apple products, while Tim Cook and Phil Schiller mingled with the crowd. When asked about the higher-than-expected price tag of the iPad mini, and Schiller’s response was that people will pay more for a high quality product.

Even though their main trial in the U.S. is over, the legal battle between Apple and Samsung is still raging on in at least 10 other countries across the globe, and who knows if it will ever end.

The latest verdict in the legal war comes from the Netherlands, where the court ruled that Samsung’s technology does not infringe on an Apple patent by using certain multi-touch technologies on some Samsung Galaxy smartphones.

Just a short drive away from Apple Headquarters in Cupertino, Apple has been working on a new store in Palo Alto that is said to be a “prototype” Apple Store. The new Apple Store will have its grand opening on October 27th at 10AM.

Last year it was reported that the Palo Alto store will feature some unique open architecture elements. The store is supposed to be about 5,030 sq. ft and feature both a glass roof and glass walls that will allow natural light to fill the open retail space.

Today’s iPad Mini event was incredible. Tim Cook and the gang just unleashed a tsunami of new Apple products on the world for the second straight month. Yes, the iPad Mini made an appearance, but there was so much more sweet stuff that it’s hard to keep up with all the details.

There always seems to be an echo of people on the Internet that are disappointed after an each Apple event. Maybe it’s those people’s own fault because they hyped the products up too much in their minds before actually seeing them. Or maybe Apple’s under-delivered a little bit on the iPad Mini.

I plan to buy an iPad Mini on November 2nd (mostly because I just sold my iPad 3 last night), but part of me wishes the iPad Mini was just a little bit better. I wish it either had a better processor, a better display, or a better price. If Apple had improved just one of those three things a little bit then I’d be warp-drive enthusiastic about it. But after the unveil, the iPad Mini doesn’t look more compelling than a Kindle Fire or Nexus 7, other than that it runs iOS 6.

Apple switched gears for the iPad Mini event. Rather than holding it at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco they’re holding it at the California Theater in San Jose and the theater is amazingly gorgeous.

The iPad mini hasn’t even been officially announced yet, but we all know it’s coming, right? But here’s the bigger question of the morning – are you already planning on buying an iPad mini even though you don’t really know what it’s going to look like or how much it will cost?

Apple probably didn’t invite you to today’s iPad mini event, but that doesn’t mean you have to feel left out. You can get your own novelty iPad mini event Passbook ticket right on your iPhone so you can feel like you’re totally legit.

To get the iPad mini event ticket, just open this link in Safari. If you’re opening the link from an iOS device, iOS 6 will automatically preview the ticket and allow you to import it into Passbook.

The Apple Store is down. As usual, Apple’s replaced it with a blank page and a little sticky note that say’s “We’ll be back.” But if Apple ever decided to be a bit more honest, the sticky note would look a lot more like the one in the picture above.

Apple’s search engine leaked the iPhone 5 hours before the actual keynote announcement last month. This time Apple search engine hasn’t spoiled any of the announcement, but the world’s most popular search engine has one of the main products of today’s announcement.

This morning Google search was pulling results from Apple.com that revealed Apple will release a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display today. Google’s web crawlers even picked up that the pricing on the new units too.

It seems like every time Apple has an event we all go through the same routine and emotions. You load your browser with the all the regular sites. You tweet the same witty lines. You feel disappointment in the newest product. Then the reality distortion field kicks in and you start hungering for it all the sudden.

The picture above is purported to show third party non-approved authentication chips for Apple’s new Lightning USB cables. They’re pretty much a huge deal for anyone who plans to make iPhone 5 accessories or cables, because now that the Lightning authentication chip has been cracked, manufacturers can create cheaper accessories because they won’t have to pay Apple a fee to use the official Lightning chip.

After Steve Jobs was kicked out of Apple, he went on to create NeXT, which focused on creating technology to aid the education industry. The video above shows Steve talking about the challenges that NeXT faced as he was building it, as well as footage inside NeXT and its employees.
