Google Releases YouTube Capture For iPad So You Can Look Silly Shooting Video On Your iPad

By

googlecaptureyoutube

The #1 rule about owning an iPad: don’t use it to take pictures or videos in public. I don’t care if you’re freaking Spike Lee. You’re going to look silly.

Google doesn’t care about none of that though. They’ve just released YouTube Capture for iPad, so you can shoot videos with your giant iPad and upload them straight to YouTube.

How A Bunch Of Hardcore Bikers Stopped Making Hot Rod Parts To Make iPhone Cases [Feature]

By

billykaras
Bill Karas (pictured above) has switched his business from making hot rod parts to iPhone cases, and it's paying off

Bill Karas isn’t your typical biker. Yes, he’s got the type of facial hair that would make ZZ Top proud. He’s even got his own custom shop where he can build you anything your bike or hot rod needs.

But behind all the facial hair, metal music, and hot rod loving exterior, Bill Karas and his crew at Karas Kustoms have found something far more exciting and lucrative than building hotrods: making iPhone cases.

How does a group of bikers go from building custom steering columns to iPhone cases? It was pretty much a compete accident, but it starts with a pen and Kickstarter.

Shaq Begged Steve Jobs To Give Him An iPhone Before It Came Out, But Got Shot Down

By

Shaq2

NBA hoops legend, Shaquille O’Neal – or as his friends call him, ‘Shaq’ – is used to dominating foes on the basketball court, but when he went up against Steve Jobs he got a heavy dose of his own medicine.

The Big Artistotle has come out of the closet. He’s a geek. In fact, he says he was a geek before geeks were cool. Back when the original iPhone was announced, Shaqtus knew a guy, who knew a guy, who knew Steve Jobs. Rather than waiting for the iPhone to be released, Shaq Fu called up Steve Jobs multiple times and begged him for an iPhone, but El Jobso wouldn’t budge.

It was one of the first, and only times, that The Big Maravich has been denied. Don’t feel bad for him, though; Shaq Diesel has a bright rapping career ahead of him if the geeky iOS development stuff doesn’t pan out.

Here’s a video of Wilt Chamberneezy retelling the story to Bloomberg:

Cult Of Mac Debates: Is Samsung Really Innovating Faster Than Apple?

By

galaxys3andsamsung

There has been an ungodly amount of talk in recent months about how Apple is losing its edge to Samsung. Even some of Apple’s most faithful analysts have said that Samsung is more innovative now than Apple, but is that really true?

In the Cult of Mac chat room this afternoon, we found this video of Gene Munster saying Samsung is innovating faster than Apple. Some of us agreed with him, while others didn’t. What followed was a great discussion of what innovation really means, and whether Samsung is beating Apple. Rather than composing it into an article, we’re just going to post our chat and see what you guys think. Does Samsung really innovate faster than Apple now?

Apple CEO Tim Cook Has Been Ordered To Testify In E-Book Antitrust Case

By

Going nowhere.
Going nowhere.

Last year, Apple was hit with an antitrust case from the U.S. Department of Justice over the pricing scheme of e-books in Apple’s iBookstore. Since that time, 11 executives at Apple have already been deposed over the issue, but the Department of Justice is demanding Tim Cook be involved, and they just got their way.

U.S. District Judge Denise Cote granted the Justice Department’s request to get Cook to testify on the ebook antitrust case for four hours.

These Clever Russians Hacked Their Car So It Can Be Driven With An iPad [Video]

By

russianipadcar

We’ve seen some really neat car hacks that use the iPhone and iPad to do some crazy stuff, but this one might take the cake.

A group of Russians decided to take their Opel Vectra car and turn it into the “James Bond car” that could be driven with a cellphone in Tomorrow Never Dies. The result, is a beat up beauty that can be driven with an iPad. Check it out:

Apple Seeds Another OS X 10.8.3 Beta Build To Developers

By

osx1083beta14

Apple is taking its sweet time with OS X 10.8.3. We’ve already had more beta builds than we care to remember, but Apple’s still trying to get the software right.

Apple seeded another OS X 10.8.3 beta(12D78)  to developers today, making it the 14th beta build of OS X 10.8.3. The first beta seed of 10.8.3 was released way back in November. There’s still no official word on when OS X 10.8.3 will be released to the public, but at this rate, we’re more likely to see OS X 10.9 Lion-O before it comes out.

This Is The Most Realistic iWatch Concept We’ve Seen Yet

By

iwatch2

We’ve seen a freaking ton of iWatch concepts over the past few months. Most of them suck. However, Martin Hajek’s new concept is beautiful, even though it’s not very functional.

Working for MacUser magazine, Martin created his iWatch concept by focusing on a traditional approach to watch making. The clock-face has a large display that looks like a mini iPad mini, but it’s got the natural touches of a regular watch – like the leather strap and clasp.

The UI doesn’t look like something you could actually use (who’s got fingers tiny enough to tap those Xs in Tweetbot?), but the hardware is great. If Apple does come out with an iWatch later this year, we hope it looks something like this:

Apple’s New ‘Brilliant’ And ‘Discover’ Ads Show Off iPhone 5 Features [Video]

By

applediscoverad

Apple’s latest ad campaign for the iPad has been somewhat underwhelming, but that’s not stopping Cupertino from bringing the same format to some new iPhone 5 ads.

Apple just unveiled the two new iPhone 5 ads called ‘Discover’ and ‘Brilliant’ that show off features like Apple Maps 3D Flyover feature, Garage Band for iOS, Yelp, Hue light bulbs, Cards, and much more.

Here’s the ‘Brilliant’ ad:

You Can Now Make Your iPhone Do The Harlem Shake Thanks To This Tweak [Video]

By

post-219275-image-81f553ca16369960e4c1b878ee105cd6-jpg

In what must surely be the official sign that this meme is over, iOS developer Filippo Bigarella has created a tweak that makes jailbroken iPhones do the Harlem Shake.

It’s stupid, but I love it. In fact, I kind of want it on my iPhone just to beat this meme into the ground so badly that no one will ever make a Harlem Shake video again. Filippo says he’s not going to release the tweak (thank goodness), but maybe if you bug him he’ll let you know how to do it.

Apple Suppliers TSMC And Hon Hai Are Hiring 5,000 New Employees Each

By

tsmc

Being in business with Apple can’t be all that bad right now. Despite a report this morning that claimed Apple’s suppliers experienced weak sales in February, there are a few Apple suppliers that are hiring more employees to meet demand.

Both TSMC and Hon Hai are looking to hire 5,000 new employees, which might mean that Apple really is looking to ditch Samsung in favor of TSMC.

Philips Announces SDK And Open API For Hue Lighting System

By

huebulbsinapack

We’ve seen Philips’ Hue lightbulbs do some pretty cool stuff, but things are about to get crazy. Philips revealed that they have some open APIs and an iOS SDK for the Hue connected lighting system.

The official SDK for Hue means that third-party apps and hardware can pick up where Hue left off and bring new features to the Hue system that Philips can’t bring on its own.

Apple’s Suppliers Experienced A Very Weak February

By

foxconn worker

Last month we heard that even though Apple just posted a record breaking quarter,  sales of the iPad were lower than internal expectations.

Backing up claims that Apple is having a down month, Topeka Capital says that they’ve been monitoring Apple’s suppliers and February was a very bad month for companies that help make Apple products.

Judge Orders Apple To Give Up Documents In Privacy Lawsuit

By

gavel-court-hammer-judge-lawsuit

Under no circumstance does Apple want to part with its company secrets. Even when it’s been ordered to do so by a U.S. Judge.

Apple must show in detail how it’s complying with a court order to turn over evidence related to its privacy lawsuit, because U.S. Judge Grewal says he can no longer rely on what Apple tells him in the case.

Ambify Will Turn Your Music Into A Light Show, Thanks To Philips Hue Bulbs

By

ambify

The Philips Hue LED lightbulbs were one of our favorite new gadgets of 2012. You can use your iPhone to turn the bulbs on, change colors, and create different themes.

Utilizing the power of Philips Hue, an iOS developer has made a crazy new app called Ambify which changes the color of your bulbs in tune with the music you’re listening to. It’s either the most fun thing to happen to your music since iTunes Visualizer, or the best way to self-induce a seizure. Or both.

Apple’s Ebay Store Is Selling Refurbed Macs For Less Than The Online Apple Store

By

applerefurbstore

It’s no secret that the best place to buy a MacBook or iMac is from the online Apple Store’s refurbished section. You get the same products, with the same warranty, for a few hundred bucks cheaper than buying it brand new.

But what you probably didn’t know is that Apple has a secret eBay store which sells the same refurbished items you can get from the online Apple Store, except they’re even cheaper.
