Apple is reportedly developing an advanced heart-rate monitoring system for Apple Watch that will utilize an electrocardiogram to take more accurate readings of the wearers’ health.

An Apple Watch-wearing kitesurfer claims the device saved his life after he got stranded off the California coast in shark-infested waters.

John Zilles, 49, crashed while riding a hydrofoil, and was left unable to relaunch his kite. Thankfully, he was able to use the cellular capabilities of his new Apple Watch Series 3 to call the Coast Guard.

After months of testing, watchOS 4.1 was released to the public this morning. The update adds a number of performance improvements and changes, including LTE streaming for Apple Music.

The notch on the iPhone X is one of the most divisive design decisions Apple’s made in years. Not everyone is a fan of the small black patch at the top of the iPhone X display, but it seems inevitable that Apple will bring Face ID to other products.

The folks at Curved created a bunch of concepts imaging what the soon-to-be-iconic iPhone X notch would look like on other Apple products. Some of the mock ups seem like their destined, while it looks down right wrong on the Apple Watch.

Tim Cook ‘couldn’t be happier’ with iPhone 8 launch

Apple CEO Tim Cook paid a visit to the Apple store in Palo Alto this morning to celebrate the launch of the iPhone 8.

Despite seeing modest lines for the device’s launch around the country, Cook told reporters today he’s “thrilled” with the response to both the iPhone 8 and the Apple Watch Series 3. Many stores across the globe have sold out of the new watch and according to Cook, the iPhone 8 is out of stock in some places too.

The Apple Watch has come a long way from the first model. With each update, Apple adds important missing ingredients, like GPS, a faster processor, cellular and an altimeter.

So has Apple Watch finally reached its true potential? Cupertino certainly thinks so. Apple COO Jeff Williams described Series 3 with cellular as “the ultimate expression of Apple Watch” at last week’s special event.

But three big problems still remain (not including the cellular connectivity glitch Apple is scrambling to fix ahead of this Friday’s ship date).

A fault with Apple Watch Series 3 LTE models can make cellular connectivity unreliable, Apple admits.

“We have discovered that when Apple Watch Series 3 joins unauthenticated Wi-Fi networks without connectivity, it may at times prevent the watch from using cellular,” Apple said in a statement. “We are investigating a fix for a future software release.”
