Sure, folks have been lining up for several days now, causing equal parts consternation and praise, but with pre-orders selling out in hours – leading to record breaking pre-sales – it’s no wonder that the lines at Apple retail stores around the globe are beginning to super size themselves as well.
Reports of scarce supplies of the iPhone 6 Plus are only adding to the madness and we’re only going to see even crazier lines the countdown nears zero. It can only get more wild from here.
One Apple fan in Arizona told Cult of Mac he wants an iPhone 6 Plus so bad he actually paid a teen for their top spot in line at a local Apple Store. She charged him $80. Half up front as a down payment to hold the spot until 4AM, when he’ll come back and maybe get to buy a gold iPhone 6 Plus.
“Doing an after work drive-by to make sure.” he told us. “They seemed cool, and I grilled them. So, hopefully we are good.”
Other fans aren’t as nearly hopeful, but the lines are just getting crazy around the world. Take a look:
The Morning 9 news team in Australia reports on Twitter that there are 2.5 thousand people in a line that started over 12 hours ago. Twitter user Trevor long nabbed a shot of the craziness, too.

Apple investors are deeply troubled about weekend iPhone sales. Sales of 9 million iPhones is the low number. Anything below that sales number indicates Apple is done for as a company. They’re absolutely sure Apple will disappoint which will result in dumping of stock. They will take that money and invest in a sure-fire company, Alibaba. Tim Cook is no longer in charge. Wall Street is deciding Apple’s future.

I have no concerns at all about weekend iPhone sales or whether Apple sells less than 9 million or above. I’m only interested in whether Apple can sell every iPhone they make over the course of a year. That’s what really matters and that’s what investors should be focused on. I’m sure the lines will be quite long everywhere in the world iPhone 6 is being sold. There will be many disappointed buyers because they’re sure to run out of stock and the iPhone 6 Plus will be the first to go. Many people are going to criticize Apple for not having more 6 Plus units stockpiled, but Apple could only guesstimate demand and in time Apple will adjust the production rate accordingly if the components are available for the 6 Plus (which they may not be).
Just like every other product where the demand exceeds production rates, they will catch up and everything will be fine. Everybody needs to relax. Do you REALLY need that upgrade tomorrow..? Can’t it wait a week or two if need be..? Geez….you’d think these were bread lines for Christ’s sake. Apple has made their best phone yet and lots of people will want it. Apple will be fine. Investors are not worried. The market is waiting to see how well the new features are adapted in the wild, and also waiting to see how the Apple Watch pans out. Everybody calm down..!

Apple does it again! The only thing pundits will see: Mass insanity. The only thing Apple sees: Pleased customers delighted with Apple products. The only things iPhone users see: Bigger screens, faster processor, more functionality, more memory, longer battery life, new OS, new HealthKit, new Apple Pay, new fun, same old Apple reliability and excellence in design and build quality.
Meanwhile, Samsung execs are looking at these very pictures and are all starting to hyperventilate on their way to a nervous breakdown or a grand mal seizure or both.
The CEO just committed a random act of criminality just to feel better, then promptly got pardoned.
