After a disaster in space, an astronaut returns to Earth to find pieces of her life missing in the upcoming Apple TV+ sci-fi series Constellation. Apple released a “first look” at the action-packed psychological thriller Thursday.

The “conspiracy-based space adventure,” which stars Noomi Rapace and Jonathan Banks, sets down on Apple TV+ on February 21.

Sci-fi thriller Constellation launches February 21 on Apple TV+

Apple TV+ shared some initial images and a plot description for the new space-based conspiracy thriller. And Constellation sounds different enough from the streamer’s other space- and sci-fi-themed series — For All Mankind, Silo, Invasion and the just-renewed Foundation — to avoid getting lost in the mix.

Here’s how Apple TV+ describes the plot:

Constellation stars Rapace as Jo — an astronaut who returns to Earth after a disaster in space — only to discover that key pieces of her life seem to be missing. The action-packed space adventure is an exploration of the dark edges of human psychology, and one woman’s desperate quest to expose the truth about the hidden history of space travel and recover all that she has lost.

Well-credentialed cast and crew

Jonathan Banks (Better Call Saul) also stars in Constellation. And that’s a good thing.

Rapace (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, You Won’t Be Alone) and Emmy Award-nominee Banks (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) headline in the show. And the rest of the cast is impressive, too: James D’Arcy (Agent Carter, Oppenheimer), Julian Looman (Emily in Paris, The Mallorca Files), William Catlett (A Thousand and One, The Devil You Know), Barbara Sukowa (Voyager, Hannah Arendt), and twins Rosie and Davina Coleman.

Peter Harness (Wallander, The War of the Worlds, Doctor Who) created and wrote the eight-part series. Emmy Award-winner Michelle MacLaren (also from Breaking Bad, as well as Apple TV+ standouts Shining Girls and The Morning Show) served as one of its directors, along with Oscar-nominees Oliver Hirschbiegel (Downfall, The Experiment) and Joseph Cedar (Footnote, Our Boys).

Shot mostly in Germany, Constellation is produced by Turbine Studios and Haut et Court TV. David Tanner (Small Axe), Caroline Benjo (No Man’s Land) and others serve as executive producers.

Watch Constellation on Apple TV+

Constellation debuts with the first three episodes on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, on Apple TV+, followed by one episode weekly through March 27.

Apple TV+ is available by subscription for $9.99 with a seven-day free trial. You can also get it via any tier of the Apple One subscription bundle. For a limited time, customers who purchase and activate a new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac or iPod touch can enjoy three months of Apple TV+ for free.

After first airing in November 2019, “Apple TV+ became the first all-original streaming service to launch around the world, and has premiered more original hits and received more award recognitions faster than any other streaming service. To date, Apple Original films, documentaries and series have been honored with 299 wins and 1,451 award nominations and counting,” the service said.

Those include multi-Emmy Award-winning comedy Ted Lasso and historic Oscar Best Picture winner CODA.
