Anyone who watches video on their iPhone can see the advantage of a portable stand. The Moft Snap Phone Tripod Stand does more than prop up the screen — it lifts your handset up 4.5 inches so the screen is closer to eye level.

It’s not bulky at all, and it magnetically attaches to the iPhone so it can be carried anywhere.

I tested the stand out for myself. Here’s why I love it.

Moft Snap Phone Tripod Stand review

Imagine you’re using your break to watch Rick and Morty on your iPhone, or maybe you’re scrolling through TikTok. You don’t have to hold the handset the entire time if you have a stand. You can lean back and enjoy.

All stands prop up the device, and good portable ones fold up and cling to the back of the iPhone using Apple’s MagSafe system. The Moft Snap Phone Tripod Stand does all that, then takes it to the next level. Literally.

Moft has a knack for stands that fold up small, then expand to something much larger than any rival can match. The accessory-makers are like origami masters.

The Snap Phone Tripod Stand is an excellent example. It starts with a package that’s a mere 0.25 inches thick (6mm) and otherwise about the size of a credit card. The accessory is small enough that I’ve thought I misplaced it, only to find it underneath the iPhone — I just couldn’t tell. The weight is 3.2 ounces (91 grams).

It uses Apple’s MagSafe system to cling magnetically to recent iPhones so it can go with you to work, class or wherever.

At first, Moft’s accessory folds open to make a kickstand. This is very stable, and the hinge is firm so it won’t collapse or even twitch much when the screen is tapped.

But now for the big finish: The kickstand opens into a second clamshell and the Moft Snap Phone Tripod Stand can hold the iPhone at least 2.8 inches above the table top (portrait) or up about 4.5 inches (landscape).

Speaking of which, because the stand connects to your iPhone with magnets, you can easily rotate the screen to landscape mode when you wish. Or leave it in portrait mode. Whatever you prefer for FaceTime calls or watching video.

Take note, with the handset held several inches above the table, the setup is fairly easy to knock over. It’s not going to collapse if you touch it or even tap on it. But a real bump from the side will do it.

Opening and closing the tripod stand is quick and easy.

My test unit is “Misty Cove,” also known as pale gray. It’s made of Movas vegan leather. Other color options include black, green and blue.

The MagSafe system depends on magnets in the iPhone connecting to magnets in the accessory. A thick case can interfere with that connection.

The portable stand works very well if you carry your iPhone “naked.” It also supports cases designed with MagSafe in mind, including Moft’s Snap Phone Case. I tested the Snap Phone Tripod Stand with this case to be sure the connection is solid.

The case comes in the same range of colors as the stand if you want to be all matchy-matchy.

I’m a real Moft fan. I use the company’s folding iPad stand almost every day because it lifts the tablet several inches above my desktop. Sound familiar?

The company’s iPhone stand that can do the same trick is equally brilliant. I can’t get over how thin it is. It’s a stand I really don’t mind carrying around.

Those who want an iPhone stand that also keeps their credit cards and driver’s license should take a look at the Moft MagSafe Wallet Stand, which I also reviewed.
