Accessories that take on more than one task are the best. Like Moft’s clip-on iPhone wallet that’s also a stand. It can hold three cards, but is very slender. And it uses magnets to cling tightly to the handset.

I tested the Moft Snap-on Stand & Wallet for weeks, so I can share what it’s really like in daily use.

Moft Snap-on Stand & Wallet for iPhone 12 Series review

iPhone wallet cases aren’t new, but the new version of  MagSafe adds a wrinkle with real advantages. This involves magnets embedded into the back of the iPhone 12 series. These are intended to improve wireless charging, but they also can be used to attach other items to the back of the handset. Like the Moft Snap-on Stand & Wallet.

Unlike a traditional wallet case, the magnet-based one can be easily removed when it’s not needed. Your iPhone can then be attached to other MagSafe accessories, like a wireless charger.

And this product works as a stand too. You’re ready to watch some TikTok anywhere you go.

Alternatively, those using an iPhone 11 or earlier can choose an adhesive version of this product.

Hardware and design

The Moft Snap-on Stand & Wallet is made of artificial leather, and it’s just 0.15 inches (5mm) thick without cards inserted. It’s 3.8 inches by 2.5 inches, which is small enough to fit on the iPhone 12 mini. The weight is a mere 1.4 ounces (40g).

Buyers can choose from black, tan, dark blue or grey. My sample unit is black.

I don’t find the size, weight or appearance of Moft’s wallet/stand objectionable in any way. I don’t think it improves the look of my iPhone 12, but it doesn’t detract either. And it makes the handset much more useful.

An iPhone 12 and the Moft Snap-on Stand & Wallet could be all you need on the go.

Magnets: Pros and cons

Don’t think for a second that because the Moft Snap-on Stand & Wallet depends on magnets it falls off easily. It absolutely does not. In the weeks I’ve carried it around attached to my iPhone 12, it’s never come loose inadvertently. Not in my pocket, not when I’m using the handset.

I can shake the handset trying to have the wallet/stand pop off and it won’t come loose.

But. And this is a significant “but.” What I said is true only if Moft’s accessory is attached directly to the iPhone 12. Any case weakens the connection. The Snap-on Stand & Wallet will still cling to the handset through thin cases, but not very tightly. Even slim cases that don’t interfere with wireless charging block the magnets too much.

Wallet

This product is primarily two pieces of vegan leather sewn together. That creates a slot to that functions as a basic wallet.

Moft says there’s room for three cards. I kept only my Apple Card and drivers license. Adding a third made the fit very tight. It’s doable, though.

The MagSafe magnets didn’t muck up my Apple Card, by the way.

Stand

The Moft Snap-on Stand & Wallet is also, you know, a stand. A rigid sheet is sewn on around the wallet. This includes magnets and folds out in such a way that it can become a kickstand for the iPhone 12. The handset can be used in either portrait or landscape mode.

It’s immensely convenient. Having a stand always ready for FaceTime calls or TV shows makes me wish Apple built one into the iPhone.

The fold-out stand Moft designed is quite stable in both portrait and landscape modes. It doesn’t come close to toppling over when I tap on the device.

With my iPhone 12 in portrait orientation, the screen leans back at 130 degrees. In landscape, it’s 120 degrees. Both are quite viewable.

Moft Snap-on Stand & Wallet final thoughts

I’ve used wallet cases with every iPhone for many years, and the Moft Snap-on Stand & Wallet is a strong alternative. Being able to slide off the accessory when it’s not needed is handy, and the built-in stand is so convenient. And it doesn’t come off accidentally.

That said, not being able to use the wallet/stand with a protective case around the iPhone 12 is a significant drawback.

Pricing

The Moft Snap-on Stand & Wallet is surprisingly affordable. It costs $29.99, and is available on Amazon.

For comparison, Apple made its own iPhone Leather Wallet with MagSafe that costs literally twice as much. It’s made of real leather but doesn’t include the stand. Or the Moft X wallet/stand that depends on adhesive is $19.99 on Amazon.
