Apple TV+ directors and producers pile up 9 award nominations

This week the Directors Guild of America and the Producers Guild of America recognized Apple TV+ content with a pile of award nominations — five in the DGA Awards and four in the PGA Awards, both set to take place in March.

DGA Awards nominations for Ted Lasso, commercials

First, on Wednesday Apple TV+ racked up DGA nominations for five directors who helmed three Ted Lasso episodes and four commercials on the streaming service.

Notably, the hit comedy Ted Lasso netted three nominations for outstanding directorial achievement in comedy. Nominee MJ Delaney directed the episode “No Weddings and a Funeral.” Erica Dunton directed “Rainbow.” And Sam Jones directed “Beard After Hours.”

And Apple product commercials, two directors received nominations. Nominee Kathryn Bigelow directed the iPhone 13 Pro commercial about the handset’s phenomenal camera, “Hollywood in Your Pocket.” And nominee An Pons Jewell directed three Apple Watch commercials: “ECG,” “Sleep” and “Apple Watch.”

So to see who wins, look for the DGA Awards presentation, which takes place March 12.

PGA Awards nominations for CODA, Come From Away, Ted Lasso and The Morning Show

Like the DGA Awards for directors, the PGA Awards honor outstanding producers, specifically of TV series and movies. Apple TV+ content received four PGA award nominations for CODA, Come From AwayThe Morning Show and Ted Lasso.

Nominees:

  • CODA producer Darryl F. Zanuck, for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures
  • Come From Away, for Outstanding Producer of Televised or Streamed Motion Pictures
  • The Morning Show producer Norman Felton, for Outstanding Producer of Episodic Television, Drama
  • Ted Lasso producer Danny Thomas, for Outstanding Producer of Episodic Television, Comedy

A ceremony on March 19 will recognize PGA Awards winners.

Apple TV+ content has earned 201 wins and 902 nominations since its debut in 2019. Nominations and awards have come from the Academy Awards, SAG Awards, Critics Choice Awards, WGA Awards, NAACP Image Awards and others.
