Five Apple TV+ Original films and three series received a total of nine nominations Tuesday for the upcoming 53rd annual NAACP Image Awards.
Last year the streaming service netted 11 nominations and won Outstanding Independent Motion Picture for The Banker.
Nominations for 5 Apple TV+ films
Five Apple TV+ Original films received NAACP Image Awards nominations. They include two for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture — one for Denzel Washington in The Tragedy of Macbeth and one for Mahershala Ali in Swan Song.
In other major category nominations, CODA got one for Outstanding Independent Motion Picture and 1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything received one for Outstanding Documentary.
The streaming service’s short film Blush nabbed a nomination for Outstanding Short-Form (Animated).
And 3 Apple TV+ series
Three Apple TV+ series garnered nominations. For Truth Be Told, Octavia Spenser earned a nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series. For See, Alfre Woodward received one for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. That’s the series’ first nomination for these awards.
And can you talk about awards if Ted Lasso‘s not involved? Probably not. The popular, award-winning sports comedy received its first NAACP Image Award nominations. It got two nods in the Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series category for writers Ashley Nicole Black and Leann Bowen.
The BET channel will air the 53rd NAACP Image Awards ceremony on Saturday, February 26 at 8 p.m. Eastern/5 p.m. Pacific.
And other awards nomination news came out on Tuesday, as well. The Visual Effects Society announced nominees for the 20th Annual VES awards, including Apple TV+ originals Foundation and Finch.
