To put it mildly, 2020 hasn’t been the best year on record. It’s been a year that, at various times, makes you mad enough to throw things — like, err, bacon?

This oddball bacon-tossing concept is at the center of a game called *ahem* Bacon — The Game. Created by the excellent indie developer Philipp Stollenmayer (Sometimes You Die), it’s a strangely addicting game which I’ve played, off and on, for the past couple of years.

Today, Stollenmayer cranked up the crispiness by adding another 30 levels to the quirky game. If you’ve not played it before, this is a great time to give it a whirl. Or a toss.

“[The idea of focusing a game on bacon was] based on the Instagram food hype of presenting ridiculous food that won’t be eaten, but just exists for the likes of others,” Stollenmayer told Cult of Mac.

In the game, players have to toss a piece of bacon out of a frying pan and onto another object. It’s a fun, crazy physics-based experience that is the spiritual successor to his previous titles Pancake — The Game and Burger — The Game.

Stollenmayer said that, initially, he had one great idea for a new level: one in which users must flip a switch on the wall by throwing a piece of bacon at it (yes, that really is what the game is all about.) When you do, it activates the flashlight function of your iPhone as a neat in-joke. “I love the idea that everyone around you is annoyed because your flash light is randomly being turning on and off, until you finally solve that level,” he said.

Of course, one new level does not an update make. As a result, Stollenmayer came up with 29 other ideas for the update. They are available as part of the latest game update, available now for anyone who updates their existing version — or downloads the game afresh.

Considering that the title launched with 100 short levels, an extra 30 is a pretty sizable update. That’s not bad for an indie game that’s been around since 2018.

Bacon — The Game is totally free to download from the App Store.
