Being blinded by WhatsApp’s bright white interface when replying to a late-night text will soon be a thing of the past. The messaging app’s long-awaited dark mode is finally on its way to iPhone.

Beta testers already have access to the new look, which means we should all be able to enjoy it soon.

Dark mode has proven to be an incredibly popular addition to iOS. It is particularly handy on the latest iPhone models with an OLED display, where it can actually help maximize battery life in between charges.

Many of us now use dark mode constantly, so it’s jarring when we open an app that doesn’t support it and we’re hit with a bright screen we weren’t prepared for. But developers are working to embrace it.

WhatsApp will soon join the list of dark mode supporters.

WhatsApp dark mode coming to iPhone

The feature has been in testing dark mode on Android for months, and it was just added to a preview version for iPhone. Only beta users who have TestFlight access can enjoy it for now.

This should mean, however, that a wider rollout is close. There’s no telling how long it will take for dark mode to reach a public WhatsApp release. Here’s to hoping it won’t take long.

WhatsApp’s dark theme turns the entire app black and includes a number of dark wallpapers. It’s not yet clear whether users will be able to toggle it manually or whether it will follow your system settings.

Look out for upcoming WhatsApp releases in the App Store.
