Today’s featured setup sports an M1 Max MacBook Pro still going strong, but the user posted the workstation on social media to show off a newly added Mchose mechanical keyboard — an unfamiliar but solid-looking brand. And I couldn’t help notice the stellar audio gear in the mix, including excellent Yamaha studio monitors for focused sound in the room, plus a surprising array of great headphones and audio interfaces.

Apple Studio Display
$1,599.00 $1,479.00

The 27-inch Apple Studio Display packs an impressive panel coupled with a six-speaker system and studio-quality microphones.

It’s not as beautiful as Apple's Pro Display XDR, but the Studio Display costs thousands less.

Pros:
  • Crystal clear 5K resolution
  • Excellent color accuracy
  • 12MP Center Stage camera
Cons:
  • Expensive
  • Lacks HDR
  • Height-adjustable stand costs extra

In a post titled, “Messy & functional MacBook setup + new keyboard!,” Redditor bhaykun showcased the MacBook rig with new Mchose mechanical keyboard joining an M1 Max MacBook Pro, Studio Display and stellar audio gear including Yamaha studio monitor speakers. Plus, he keeps three mice in the mix, most likely for three good reasons — Logitech Lift (ergonomic), Logitech MX Master 3s (productivity) and Razer Deathadder v3 (gaming).

“I recently got a new keyboard that sent me on a desk photo spree,” Kun said. “My desk is always full of a ton of stuff that keeps changing based on what I’m doing, but it’s always some combination of notebooks, pens, watches and Apple products with accessories.”

These powered desktop or bookshelf speakers provide clear audio suitable to studio work. They include two-way bass reflex technology with 4.5-inch cone woofers and 1-inch dome tweeters.

Pros:
  • Compact for smaller spaces
  • Powered speakers for clear audio
Cons:
  • Not designed for high-volume use

So Kun could rely on his MacBook Pro or his Studio Display for audio from their reasonably good speaker systems. But instead he chooses Yamaha HS4 studio monitor speakers to kick his sound up a notch or three.

Yamaha’s HS Series speakers are popular studio monitors, trusted by audio engineers, producers and artists for clear sound. With HS4, Yamaha redefined the series a bit with more-compact housing. The speakers can help create a wide range of audio content, from music production to video editing. They could work well for creators who have limited space and need to keep the volume down — but don’t want to compromise on monitoring quality.

Features:

  • 2-way bass-reflex powered speaker with 4.5-inch cone woofer and 1-inch dome tweeter
  • 60Hz – 22kHz frequency response (-10 dB)
  • 26-watt and above 26-watt output power
  • Room control and high trim response controls
  • XLR/TRS Phone (COMBO), RCA and Stereo Mini inputs
  • Stereo mini – RCA cable, speaker cable and anti-slip pad included.

In addition to the speakers, the setup features not one but two sets of excellent headphones and a surprising three audio interfaces. The cans are top-notch Sennheiser HD650 and midrange Grado SR80X. The interfaces are Native Instruments Komplete Audio 2, iFi Zen Dac v2 and Fiio E10K.

And here’s another surprise: A collection of analogue wristwatches lines up on the pegboard wall storage, behind the display to the right. He’s not an Apple Watch guy, apparently.
