We didn’t get a glimpse of the new Apple TV at this week’s event, or even a major UI update, but Apple did release a small update for Apple TV this afternoon bumping it up to version 6.0.1.

Apple still hasn’t said what kind of new goodies version 6.0.1 Build 11B511d contains, but we’ll let you know if we discover anything worth noting in the meantime.Users can download the update to your Apple TV by going to Settings >> General >> Software Update

While the highlight of Apple’s press event on Tuesday will undoubtedly be its new iPads, we were also expecting the Cupertino company to announce a new Apple TV. But a new report suggests the fourth-generation set-top box has been “delayed a bit,” and that it won’t be ready for tomorrow’s event after all.

How Apple Is Dressing Up Apple TV for Christmas

By

mad-men

Updates on the French and German versions of Amazon.com suggest a new, replacement Apple TV coming the day after this week’s Apple announcement — just in time for Christmas.

The prospect of a shiny new Apple TV product makes everyone think of a radical new Apple TV box with crazy new user interface options, or an actual Apple TV set, both of which people have been predicting for years.

And then that Scrooge MG Siegler comes along to say he’s hearing that the Big Apple TV Update has been delayed, and that maybe there will be a minor update to the existing product.

Whether something grander has been delayed or not, I think TV will be the most interesting product at the Tuesday announcement — not because of hardware, but because of a new software interface and new deals I think Apple will announce.

Will We See A New Apple TV Next Week? Amazon Suggests So

It’s been well over a year since the Apple TV received a significant refresh, so we’ve long been wondering whether Apple was planning to unveil a new model at its iPad event this fall. Amazon listings in France and Germany seem to suggest that’s the case, with the $99 set-top box now out of stock until October 23 — a day after Apple’s event.

Amazon is gearing up to launch a new set-top box that hopes to compete with the Apple TV and other video streaming devices this holiday, The Wall Street Journal reports. It’s understood the device is small and resembles a Roku, and it will run apps and provide content from a variety of sources, including Amazon’s own Prime service.

It just got a lot easier to set up your Apple TV. Apple has detailed a new way to input login and WiFi network information when setting up a third-gen Apple TV with an iOS device. All you have to do is physically tap an iPhone against the Apple TV to instantly transfer settings over Bluetooth LE (low energy). The Apple TV needs to be on the latest 6.0 update, and the other device needs to be running iOS 7.

Apple TV 6.0 Update Returns After Buggy Version Was Pulled

By

If you were one of the many Apple TV users who didn’t have a pleasant experience updating to the big 6.0 update a few days ago, it’s safe to re-download and try again. After there were widespread reports of the software bricking devices, Apple pulled the update from its servers.

That happened earlier today, and now version 6.0 is available again with a new build number and hopefully some bug fixes. You can find it in software update. Once it’s installed, your Apple TV will be able to install updates on its own.

Apple TV 6.0 is one of the biggest updates to the set-top box ever. It adds iTunes Radio, Airplay from iCloud, shared Photo Streams, Podcast syncing, and more.

Apple TV Update Pulled After User Reports Of Bricked Devices

Apple TV 6.0

Friday, we reported that Apple TV was updated with a new v6.0 update, bringing with it features like AirPlay from iCloud and iTunes Radio.

Today, however, Electronista reports that the update has been pulled. We’ve confirmed that the update is no longer available, as our un-updated Apple TV still says it has up to date software today, showing Apple TV software version 5.3.

We assume the update was pulled due to several user reports on the Apple TV discussion forum of Apple TV devices becoming useless after updating to the new OS.

New Apple TV Hardware Could Be Coming Next Month After All

A5X inside, but nothing else new.

A rumor surfaced right before Apple’s iPhone 5c/5s keynote yesterday saying that secret shipments of Apple TVs were arriving in the U.S. AllThingsD quickly squashed the report saying that Apple was not planning on unveiling new Apple TV hardware this month, and based off yesterday’s event, that certainly looks to be the case.

A big software update for the Apple TV will reportedly arrive on September 18th alongside the release of iOS 7. But that’s the only Apple TV news that has been on the horizon, until now.
