Apple Will Kill Off The White MacBook By August In Favor Of $999 MacBook Air [Report]

Apple’s white Macbook has served as the company’s entry-level notebook computer for several years. The 13-inch white Macbook is currently offered as Apple’s cheapest notebook for $999. The base MacBook Air model is also offered for the same price.

It looks like Apple is set to phase out the white Macbook in the coming months, which would place the Macbook Air as Apple’s premiere entry-level notebook.

We apologize if this is getting confusing. At first there were supposed to be updated MacBook Airs coming today with OS X Lion, then it was reported that we’d see new hardware from Apple on July 26th.

Now, it appears that new MacBook Airs with backlit keyboards and more storage could be coming as soon as next week!

Sony Vaio Z Is The First Laptop To Fragment Thunderbolt

The first non-Apple laptop supporting the new Thunderbolt standard has now officially been announced in the Sony Vaio Z, and it’s an impressive machine… for a Windows PC. Unfortunately, though, Sony’s implementation of Thunderbolt is hobbled by a hubristic decision to use a different connector than Apple, , along with a petulant refusal to adopt Apple’s Thunderbolt brand name.

Here’s the handsome new login screen in the update to OS X Lion Developer Preview 4, that Apple released on Wednesday afternoon.

It’s a dark linen motif, and it’s used in several places in the Lion and iOS 5. We got  sneak peek of this color scheme during Steve Jobs’ presentation at WWDC. Now it has been rolled out to developers, and soon to the public. Who’s excited?
