Do you miss the home button on your from-the-future iPhone X? Then we have good news! You can either sell it on eBay for a ridiculous sum, or you can add a home button back using a long-time feature built into iOS’s accessibility settings. Let’s take a look.
Face ID can now recognize a second person. Photo: Ste Smith/Cult of Mac
Face ID is, by most accounts, an amazing technology. You pretty much set it and forget it, and the iPhone X just unlocks itself whenever you look at it.
But what if you’re too lazy to point your eyes and your face at your iPhone whenever you want to look at it? What if you prefer to give it a sidelong glance, to show it who’s boss? Then you can disable attention awareness, which speeds up the Face ID process and unlocks your iPhone X faster.
We hope next year's iPad Pro looks like this. Photo: Martin Hajek
The iPad Pro is set to get a huge processor upgrade in 2018, based on the latest rumor out of Apple’s supply chain in Asia.
Apple supposedly plans to slap an octa-core processor in next year’s iPad Pro, making them the most powerful tablets Apple’s ever made. The chip will allegedly be manufactured by TSMC and will pack a few features the A11 chip on the iPhone X doesn’t have.

A “Gentleman Coder” who is the former director of the Apple photo apps teams has launched an IOS app for the photographer who prefers to shoot RAW images.
RAW Power for iOS hit the App Store this week from software company Gentlemen Coders LLC, which was founded by Nik Bhatt. His 14-year stint in Cupertino included being Senior Director of Engineering for the Aperture and iPhoto teams and later the Chief Technical Officer of the Photo Apps group.
Save massively on two terabytes of secure cloud storage, for long and short-term needs. Photo: Cult of Mac Deals
Everybody knows that a key part of any proper data backup plan includes cloud storage. When a hard drive goes kaput, it’s reassuring to know that your most important files are just a WiFi signal away. Of course, it can also be pretty pricey as the capacity goes up.
Could Apple challenge the might of Netflix? Photo: Netflix
As part of CCS Insight’s predictions for 2018, analysts for the firm suggest that Apple will launch a video subscription service, designed to compete with Netflix.
“Everyone is jostling for position and everyone is jumping in on the area of video. When you look at Apple, it has a very strong hardware offering and their services business is on the march,” Paolo Pescatore, vice president of multiplay and media at CCS Insight, told CNBC.

If you missed out on generous launch discounts on iPhone X, don’t despair. There are more right around the corner for Black Friday. Analysts expect carriers to make big price cuts as they fight for new subscribers this fall.
Animoji are too much fun! Photo: Ste Smith/Cult of Mac
You can’t enjoy Animoji unless you buy an iPhone X, but it’s apparently not because you need the device’s fancy hardware. It looks like Apple’s latest gimmick is powered at least partly by the handset’s front-facing camera rather than relying entirely on its advanced TrueDepth sensor.

With the iPhone X finally released, now is the best time to lock-in a price to sell your old phone before it begins to depreciate. And you should use Cult of Mac’s gadget buyback program, because we pay the highest cash prices with the easiest service.
Our popular gadget buyback program pays more for used and broken Apple devices in most cases than rivals like Gazelle and BuyBackWorld.
Apple has touted the security of Face ID, but there have been a couple of exceptions to the rule. Photo: Apple
There have already been multiple reports of close family members being able to successfully unlock each other’s iPhone X using Face ID.
After publishing a story yesterday on a kid who managed to unlock his mom’s handset, however, we heard from another pair of individuals. The difference? That this time they are not mother and son, or siblings, but “very distant” third cousins. (Although it’s still not an issue you should worry about.)
Apple previously clashed with the government over whether or not to create the app. Photo: Ste Smith/Cult of Mac
Apple appears to have partially backed down in a clash with the Indian government over whether or not to help develop an anti-spam application for iOS, having previously refused to do so because of privacy concerns.
The issue concerned a so-called “Do Not Disturb” app, which the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India wanted Apple to distribute on the App Store. The app is already available on Android.

The U.S. International Trade Commission has confirmed that it is investigating Apple for allegedly infringing on patents on various devices, including Macs, iPhones, iPads, iPods, and Apple TVs.
The probe was launched following a complaint from Aqua Connect Inc. and subsidiary Strategic Technology Partners of Orange, California.
Is the iPhone 7 camera really Hollywood-worthy? Photo: Apple
The Oscar-winning director behind Traffic and Ocean’s Eleven is coming back to the big screen in 2018. Only instead of filming his latest movie on Hollywood-quality rig, Steve Soderbergh is turning to Apple’s iPhone to capture all the action.
Shooting From the Hip, the iPhone street photography of San Francisco's Scott Strazzante, is now for sale. Photo: David Pierini/Cult of Mac
You may be tempted to marvel at Scott Strazzante’s new book, Shooting From the Hip, simply because he made all those gritty street photographs with an iPhone.
We can’t seem to get over the fact that the little wonder device in our pockets can be used to create great work. Apple touts stunning photos on big billboards, luring us with the promise that good pictures will come pouring out if we upgrade to the latest iPhone.
But photography — good photography, anyway — isn’t that simple. And to fixate on the tool Strazzante uses would be a disservice to him, and to the collection of 150 pictures inside this hardcover coffee table book.

If you venture outside on a regular basis, chances are you check your weather app pretty often. Whether the info it gives you is good or bad, it should deliver it in eye-pleasing style. Especially if you’ve forked over the cash for a new iPhone X.

There are very few iOS tasks that still require a Mac. One of those is getting your own ringtones onto your iPhone. You can buy them, but you can’t add a downloaded ringtone onto your iPhone without hooking up to iTunes. Or can you? GarageBand on iOS lets you save your own creations as ringtones, to be used immediately. Here’s how.

Production issues with the iPhone X caused Apple’s biggest supply partner to suffer its biggest decline in profits in nearly a decade.
Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., aka Foxconn, posted its latest earnings today and disappointed investors by posting a 39 percent decline in net income compared to the same quarter last year.
A classic watch design, with all the modern trimmings. Photo: NYSW
Do you want a smartwatch that works with your iPhone, but aren’t ready to give up on the classic stylings of an analog timepiece in favor of an Apple Watch?
If so, you may be interested to hear about New York Standard Watch’s (NYSW) newly launched series of semi-smart watches, blending classic design with digital functionality.

Another way to circumvent the iPhone X’s Face ID security system has been discovered — but, don’t worry, it’s not going to be one that affects the overwhelming majority of users.
The Face ID “hacker” in question is the fifth-grade son of an iPhone X owner, who apparently looks close enough to his mom in appearance that the system recognizes them both as the same person.
Apple’s new iPhone lineup finally supports wireless charging. Both the iPhone X and the iPhone 8/8 Plus use the Qi standard that’s been popular for years. That means you can choose from an endless list of compatible charging pads, mats and stands already on the market.
So, which one(s) should you buy? We’ve rounded up some of the best iPhone wireless chargers to make your buying decision a little bit easier.
The Apple Watch is going from strength to strength. Photo: Apple
Apple has yet to reveal exactly how many Apple Watches it has manufactured and sold, but according to market research firm Canalys the shipments figure is likely to have been 3.9 million units in Q3 2017.
That’s its strongest quarter so far in 2017, and enough that Apple retook the wearable device lead — with rivals Xiaomi and Fitbit shipping 3.6 million and 3.5 million bands, respectively.

Apple adds support for faster 7.5-watt wireless charging in its latest iOS 11.2 beta. iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X all support the increased charging speed. You’ll need a compatible wireless charging mat to take advantage of it, however.
