Over the last week, several YouTube users on mobile and iPad noticed the app randomly crashing on their devices. This affected both Android and iPhone users. In some cases, while the app did not crash, it became unresponsive to touch.
Google acknowledged the problem earlier this week. It provided a temporary workaround until it could find a proper solution, which involved deleting the app, restarting your phone, and re-downloading the YouTube app.
Two days later, Google updated its initial acknowledgment, confirming the issue is resolved. But, for iPhone and iPad users, it has made the temporary solution the official fix.
“Update: The issue is fixed! If you’re using an iOS device, please reinstall the app. Thanks for your patience while we looked into this,” says Google’s edit in the original announcement.
Reinstall YouTube on your iPhone to fix the problem
So, anyone still experiencing random crashes or stability issues on iOS should reinstall the app. If you are a YouTube Premium subscriber, deleting the app will remove all your downloaded videos. You’ll need to download them again afterward.
Before reinstalling the app, you can try your luck by updating to the latest YouTube build from the App Store. If that tackles the general unresponsiveness and random crashes, you won’t have to reinstall the app. Otherwise, your only option is to remove and reinstall YouTube.
