After years of delay, Meta launched a native WhatsApp app for iPad in 2025. A year later, it is adding the ability to sign up for a new WhatsApp account right from the iPad.

WhatsApp will also deliver a superior CarPlay experience, allowing you to hear and respond to messages, see your call history and more.

WhatsApp’s iPad app becomes more independent

So far, WhatsApp’s iPad app only acted as a companion to the iPhone app. You could not directly sign up for a new WhatsApp account using the iPad app. To use WhatsApp on your iPad, you had to link it to an existing account by scanning a QR code or entering a code through WhatsApp on your iPhone or Android phone.

As part of its latest feature drop, you can directly sign up for a new WhatsApp account using the iPad app.

WhatsApp’s CarPlay experience is also getting a major upgrade. In its announcement, Meta says, “Now you can hear and respond to messages, make calls, see your call history, and reach your favorites – hands-free and right from your car’s screen.”

On the web and desktop (Windows), WhatsApp now offers direct integration with Adobe Acrobat. This lets you view PDFs within the app and make basic edits, such as highlighting text and adding annotations.

Lastly, you can share your favorite song directly to your WhatsApp Status, letting friends and family know what you’re currently listening to. The feature supports Apple Music and Spotify.

The latest round of WhatsApp improvements is already rolling out to users worldwide.

Together, these additions make WhatsApp more useful across tablets, cars and computers, while reducing its reliance on a smartphone for setup and everyday tasks across a wider range of devices.
