Watch what happens when an iPhone 6 meets an angle grinder

The whole Bendgate incident prompted Apple to release some details about its own internal stress-testing policies for new iPhones. It’s unlikely that anyone at Cupertino carries out iPhone stress-testing quite to the degree of YouTube user TechRax, however.

Masquerading as a tech channel, Ukrainian YouTuber TechRax is really just using that an excuse to destroy the latest must-have gadgets. This week, he turned his attention to the iPhone 6 — a device that has previously had its endurance tested by him in boiling Coca-Cola, deep snow, under the treads of a tank — and a variety of other scenarios that, frankly, are unlikely to befall your precious smartphone.

In TechRax’s latest “experiment” he sets on the gold iPhone 6 with a DeWalt angle grinder. The results are… well, largely what you’d expect. You can check out the video after the jump.

The real questions I have after watching the video have very little to do with the iPhone 6’s solidity, and everything to do with how TechRax affords so many iPhones — and why he is allowed such free access to power tools.

“Look internet! I have disposable income! I’m going to get likes, subsbscribes and more importantly moar money by cutting this icrap and showing the world my disdain for Evil Apple… just like that Lew fellow who bent his a few months ago!”

A thorough piece of research. Faultless method and concluding with the fact that you are a moron. That phone could have been sold for half its value and fed an underprivileged family of four for a month. Try the angle grinder on your thick head which should offer a little more resistance due to its density.

Exactly, I cant understand why people like these prefer to waste money in destroying expensive stuff for the world to see, instead of doing something worthwhile for people in need…

I better brace my self for the obligatory “because he can!” and “its his money!” fools defending him….

Watch what happens when you put spaghetti on your iPhone! It gets spaghetti on it.

    Ridiculous! A pointless waste.

  6. Bruce D Milyko says:

I’m not sure which is a bigger waste. The pointless distruction, or the publishing of it.

  7. P says:

Well it is not the solidity of the phone. The abrasive disc on the angle grinder is for metal not for glass/plastic?! The test is pointless if the phone was metal block it will be cut trough like knife to butter.

  8. I dont understand why he’s not in the hospital with several lung injuries. That smoke he made from severing the lithium polymer battery is extremely toxic.

Douchy brats like this deserve whatever disease comes from breathing in fumes from burning components.

Apparently, in the absence of real or interesting news, this is he kind of thing Cult of Mac chooses to blog about. How insulting to us readers.

  12. pinz says:

well he showed that he has no idea how to operate a angular grinder and that the disk can shred into pieces if you use it like a hammer and fly around like shrapnels … anyhow, a big waste of time and resources… btw can someone tell this fool that the smoke is toxic?

  13. Ruurd Pels says:

Added value? ZERO. I mean… what flaming idiot thinks that filming how he uses an angle grinder on an iPhone – or any phone in fact – is enjoyable and relevant? DUHHUH. Moron.

  14. cmr says:

Well that’s a disappointing waste of time, money and column inches. Come on Cult of Mac, you’re better than this.
