If you’re an owner of a new Leica M Monochrom camera — a beautiful digital camera specializing in beautiful black-and-white photographs, which Leica released on May 7th — you may want to avoid hooking it up to your Mac right now.
According to a new advisory, a nasty bug affects the Leica M Monochrom which can cause it to destroy your entire Apple Photos library. Whoa!
The issue is with the Monochrom’s DNG files, which Leica says are not compatible with Apple Photos. If you load them up, the “library will crash continuously on loading” and as a result, the library could be “destroyed.”
The solution? For right now, don’t use Photos if you need to edit photos taken with a Leica M Monochrom’s, use an alternative like Lightroom.
According to Leica, the issue lies with Apple, not the Monochrom, and the next update to Photos is likely to fix it. Hopefully, that happens before too many unsuspecting users find their Photos libraries destroyed.

Anyone shooting a Monochrom is NOT using Apple Photos to organise their work. Count on it.
