The iPhone 6 received rave reviews when Apple unveiled it at the Flint Center last month, but not many people have been eager to talk about it’s shortcomings, until now.
In today’s Cult of Mac video we breakdown the biggest disappointments iPhone 6 users have griped about since the device went on sale two weeks ago. What should Apple improve to make the phone better? Find out what the next generation iPhone still needs and more in this informative video.

Hey thanks for watching. Yeah, personally I have a case on mine all the time.
Only a fool buys an expensive item chiefly for the way it’s designed and looks and feels, and then puts it in a 50 cent plastic doodad.
You can say you use a case because you are fearful or paranoid (“I’m protecting my investment!”); you can say you use a case because you don’t care about design (“I don’t give a sh*t what it looks like!”); you can also use a case because you have no taste (rabbit ears!), or because you are cheap (resell it FTW). You can even use a case because you are a clumsy person who can’t be trusted with electronics.
But all other reasons are basically BS, and owning up to one of these reasons is owning up to a fault in *yourself,* not the product.
Some people don’t want their phone to get scratched or it adds extra protection. I still have yet to see an iPhone case for $.50. For that low of a price, it’s probably a POS.
Why don’t you want your phone to be scratched? Because it will look ugly? Well guess what, you can’t see your phone with a case on it anyway – all you can see is the ugly case. I don’t get the whole, keeping my phone shiny and new when you don’t get a chance to appreciate the beauty of the design. I’ve never put my phone in a case and I don’t intend to.
My only problems with the iPhone 6 is the antenna bands, which I would prefer being blended into the metal or somehow disguised. Then there’s the protruding camera lens, which could be solved with a thicker chassis.
You could have just stopped at “Only a fool buys an expensive item chiefly for the way it’s designed and looks and feels” Most of us buy the iPhone for what it enables us to do.
then Apple should just include a free case with the iPhone.
I was kind of distracted throughout the video with all of the cutting to different unneeded camera angles.
The big boys do that also. If someone is talking to me, I don’t want them to be looking away from me.
Hey @Wayner83 first off thanks for watching. I appreciate your feedback on the camera angles. I’ll definitely take note of that for future videos!
I didn’t mind having the 2 different camera angles. What bothered me was the second angle was really awkward. First off the picture was too dark, and it was looking upwards at you. If you look at professional videos where they have multiple camera angles they’ll never put the second camera in such a lousy place. It was as if we were looking at you from underneath the table or something. That’s how it felt to me.
I have to agree here. The hard cuts between angles are just unnecessary and are more distracting than anything else. I appreciate you wanting to fancy it up, but for what you are doing, you just don’t need it.
With the camera angles, the only problem was the color in both cameras was different, the second angle was oddly framed, and the cutting was too “hyper”. One last note, please just back down the gain on your mic, you won’t get the clipping/ distortion we are hearing. If you need help at all please feel free to contact me, I would like to help if at all possible. Thanks for the videos, I look forward to watching more!
Not going to bring up 7? “All the hype about the bendgate”
Well this video was particularly aimed at the 6 and not the 6 Plus. Not many people have commented on the 6 bending but that’s definitely a good point for all those interested in the Plus! Good note, thanks for watching by the way!
I’m way more disappointed with the extremely ugly design of those antenna lines than the protruding camera.
But I’m just going to put a case on it once I update from 4S to 6, so it’s ok I guess.
Also, the power button on the top of the 6 and 6 Plus would be a problem for most people who only use one hand, that’s why it was moved to the side.
I imagine it may also have something to do with the NFC. In the keynote they suggested the top of the phone is where the NFC antenna projects its signal from. I personally think the 6 would still be just fine for keeping the button on top. My hands aren’t that big and I can still easily reach where the old button was. I can’t imagine anything being easy to do one handed on the 6 plus. I am actually pretty pleased I decided to stick with the 6.
Wow, pretty slim and minor disappointments. I bought one of Apple’s silicone cases for it which removed all problems of slipperiness and the protruding camera. Everything else is very minor. Instead of disappointments, these should be labeled as “things that didn’t match my wish list.” My iPhone 6 is terrific and the larger screen is wonderful. It’s a dramatic shift up from my old 4S.
I just wanted it to be waterproof. That’s all I wanted… it’s 2014 people! Why can a bit of water still ruin such an impressive piece of tech? Damn!
The placement of the power button. I noticed the problem when I was first playing around with it. Yes it is a bit too high, but it’s better than having it on the top like the HTC One M8. Either way, it’s a minor inconvenience.
Most people that I know that don’t put iPhones in cases have broken screens. It’s like concrete: either it’s cracked, or it’s going to crack. I’ve used Otterbox cases, and have never had a problem. It has saved my phone a few times. I know, the aesthetics of the design, right? Sure, but I can’t afford to replace screens or phones, or sit idly at an Apple store, which is 100 miles away. I will agree with the placement of the on/off button.
The camera angles used to shoot this video are worse than all the minor issued he complains about.
DIto ON THAT, don’t do it!
You should work for Apple and teach them how to design a better phone….
Please don’t, I was joking.
get a super set slim silicon transparent case, 1 dollar on ebay, solves the slippery issue, doesn’t make it look ugly at all , as you really can’t see it, and solves the camera issue, all for one dollar !!
Disappointment 1: as an aircraft mechanic nothing is too smooth for my hands!!
Disappointment 2: use custom vibration; I checked my old 5 on a glass table and the response was about the same.
Disappointment 3: yeah, I suppose…right now I think commerce is what apple needs to concentrate on, unless of course your looking for the gimmicky transferring of files by touching two iPhones together.
Disappointment 4: work in-progress.
Disappointment 5: lol…thanks for reminding me, I had all ready forgot about that protruding lens!
Disappointment 6: I’ve heard the same think about the power button from others and its happen to me once or twice…not really a dispointment, just need to adjust.
Disappointment 7: I wanted scratch resistant sapphire, was looking forward to not having to use a screen protector…although I still haven’t put one on and so far so good.
Worst audio I’ve heard on a video for ages and ages.
Hard to even force myself to watch it.
Also, all the “disappointments” are lame and just BS basically.
I don’t think they could put this camera flush with the case due to the thickness of the camera vs. the case thickness. I think with any new App like Healthkit, there will be a certain amount of tweaking with the app, which is generally what happens with new apps. I would’t worry about it. I personally would like to see them do what HTC did with regards to two front facing speakers. I think that’s the only way to put speakers in smartphones and tablets. Plus, they could easily put two speakers inside. I actually which Apple had the same case design, only with better quality of case finishing as the HTC One M8, so far between having a curved back and 2 front facing speakers, I think that’s the best designed case for a smartphone, it’s just too bad it’s an Android phone.
Spot on!!!!
