Developed by Silvio Rizzi, Reeder 2 was our favorite feed reader for Mac when it was released last year, but design wise, it was themed an OSX Mountain Lion app in an OS X Yosemite world.

Now, Reeder 3 is here, available to everyone as part of a public beta. And not only does it have a new look, it comes with a huge number of new features.

Built from the ground up to support OS X 10.10 and above, Reeder 3 will be a free update for Reeder 2 for Mac users. In addition to a new default look, here’s what’s new:

  • More themes
  • Updated UI
  • Unread and starred counts for smart folders
  • Hide smart folders in unread/starred view if there are no unread/starred items
  • Private browsing support (see Settings > Reading)
  • Display the URL in the status bar when hovering a link in the article viewer or browser
  • New article viewer display settings: separate font and uppercase options for the title
  • Fullscreen now also works when in minimized layout mode

Reeder 3 also supports a host of new services, like Instapaper, as well as deeper integration with existing services like Feedbin, Readability, Feedly, and more.

It’s a fantastic update, and on my Mac, the public beta is working great. Best of all, if you already laid out $10 for Reeder 2, Reeder 3 will be a free upgrade when it exits public beta.

So what you’re saying is they’ve copied all the features ReadKit already offer, and now it’s the best reader client?

Is there anything that this does now better than ReadKit?

Still in beta, and already the “best Mac feed reader?” Wow, that’s some adoption-rate cycle! And only $10? Seems Cult of Mac can literally make or break products with a short advertisement… I mean, review.

Looks like they stole the Airmail 2 design!
