See magnets crush a $10,000 Apple Watch Edition

Magnet + Apple Watch Edition = too much money.

Some were outraged about the $10,000 cost of the Apple Watch Edition, but will people really race to see one of the glittery timepieces get obliterated by powerful neodymium magnets?

Oddball YouTube stress-tester TechRax clearly hopes so, because he recently plonked down the money to carry out just such an “experiment” in his quest for views. Check out the resulting video below.

Seriously, how does this guy get his money?

TechRax, for those unfamiliar with him, is the Ukrainian YouTuber previously best-known for assaulting new iPhones with DeWalt angle grinders and dropping them in lava lamps — all in the interests of science, you understand!

The biggest surprise about this latest stress test, however, is that the Apple Watch Edition proves a bit more durable than you might think. While the Watch is unsurprisingly ruined by the massive impact of the two magnets — equaling 650 pounds of force — the gold remains largely undamaged.

More amazingly still, when TechRax puts it back in the box and connects the charger, the device emits an audio acknowledgement showing that it’s not completely destroyed.

Better or worse use of money than giving two Apple Watch Editions to your pet dog? You decide.

How does he get his money? You’re honestly asking this, given you keep linking to this clickbait rubbish off the main page? Seriously?

All he has to do is have AppleCare and he just pays a minimal amount to get a new one. He probably gets paid through YouTube for racking up a ton of views.

Yes, my point is he racks up that ton of views in part because sites like this one link to his ‘material’ (and I use that term loosely). If people stopped feeding idiots like him, he wouldn’t be able to afford to do idiotic, wasteful, shameful stuff like this. But thanks in part to great sources of Apple journalism like this one (ahem), the idiot destroys on.

Seems like a waste of money to prove so little. It’s certainly not a real world test of any kind. Apple never claimed that AppleWatch couldn’t be destroyed, so what’s the point of this little experiment. Definitely a case of more money than brains. Pretty scary magnets, though. They must be part of some larger device because there wouldn’t be much point of magnets that once they get together it’s very difficult to get them apart.

He’s an idiot for spending money doing this.
You’re an idiot for posting about it.
And I’m an idiot for clicking on your story.

    Proof positive that idiots abound.

I hope Apple pulls the serial number from the video and rejects his Apple Care coverage on it when he brings it in for “accidental damage”.

For the record, I never click through to this rubbish, so he never gets my view. Drop in the ocean, I know, but it’s all I can do. He exploits the people who can’t turn away from a train wreck. Individuals can choose; it’s just that people more often choose to feed the idiots. Does it make him a genius? Maybe. Does it make him a good person? Nope. Does it matter? Not as long as cash outranks not being an idiot. And I guess we’re not there yet. This is only one example. We could go on, but it’s a larger philosophical discussion that obviously no one here gives a damn about.
