Living in the U.K. as I do (in contrast to most of my California-based Cult of Mac co-writers), Christmas ads are one of the few bright spots at this time of year.
And Lloyds Bank just kicked off the season with a cracking 40-second ad showing off the fact that it is now well and truly on the Apple Pay bandwagon. The ad tells the story of a girl looking for the perfect Christmas gift for her mom — with Apple’s mobile payment service coming to the rescue.

Heartwarming? Definitely. Maudlin? Maybe a bit. But, hey, it illustrates how Apple Pay works, while also being charming — which is more than I can say for a few of Apple’s more obvious, celebrity-reliant ads as of late.
In the U.K., Apple Pay is now available from Lloyds, Natwest, Santander, Nationwide, RBS, Ulster Bank, MBNA, American Express, HSBC, and First Direct. The only major holdout is now Barclays, which is still making up its mind, although it has expressed interest in Apple’s payments system.

I thought it was Lloyd Banks in this ad, that he is starring in this Christmas commercial)))
